    PC clock borked

Basically whenever I shutdown or hibernate my laptop the clock returns to the factory time, midnight 27 july 06. On switching on the laptop setup screen pops up with "CMOS time not set" or something similar. Halp pls. No idea what caused this btw, I haven't been fucking with the clock.

90% of the time this is caused by the motherboard's battery being dead. If you can open any of the panels on the bottom, and can see a circle wrapped in yellow plastic with two wires coming out, you might be able to buy a new one and replace it yourself. If its still under warranty, you should take it back to where you bought it from, see if you can get it replaced.

Depending on system, it might be a customer removable component and would only need to be switched by you. Call up your tech support and find out

They'd send the part, and have you install it
