    Re: Crysis SPDemo

    All I can say is, Wow.

    I downloaded it, half not expecting it (ok, more than half) to not even play on my system.... Oldschool P4 3.4 Ghz, 2GB Ram and a shoddy ATI X800 All-in-wonder (loltvtuner) but with all settings on minimum it played with little to no graphical lag.. Which amazed me, tbh. Gameplay was incredibly awesome; I was psyched about it when I first heard about the game (I remember watching the videos about 2 years back of the guy shooting trees / bark / dirt to show effects, and remarking how amazingly high the system requirements would be, its crazy to think its coming out in two weeks.

    All in all, it gets me more excited about my PC I'm buying this week - nvidia 8800 GT, 2-4 gb of ram (undecided), new chipset, Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0 (intend to clock to 3.3) and should be able to play this game on Max settings with about 35-40 constant FPS (so says a few benchmarks) which is pretty awesome given the specs and spectrum of this game. The singleplayer mode is just utter badassery, the suits and tech is pure win imo, and the story seems like it'll be great (Fighting with realistic physics in zero-g environments in a muscle-enhancing nano suit, anyone?) and tack onto that a promising multiplayer game (I was a huge BF2 fan, BF2142, etc, so having another thing to play as a clan is just badass) and my anticipation for this game just went through the roof. I was interested before, but after the demo, I'm going nutso.

    Also, realized I have a fileplanet subscription to download the Beta. More gameplay incoming. BRB changing pants.

    That screenshot makes me realize how bad it looks on my PC compared to how it COULD look. ; ;

    This is true, but I'm kinda happy. On lower resolutions at low settings the game doesn't look remotely as good, but it runs great, even on an ancient machine. I was pretty much expecting the lower settings to still be pretty graphically intensive and not even run, so that's cool.

    Had some time again, so I threw together a small sample of one of my runs through the editor. I know its on rapidshit, but I didn't have time to bother dumping it anywhere else. Settings were a custom mix of medium / high / very high so Fraps didn't completely crap out the framerate. With those settings and Fraps not recording the framerate was 50-60, or most of the DX10 candy can be turned on while maintaining the ~30 from the video.

    I want the full editor now more than I want the finished SP, you really can do just about anything you want with this game and its not hard at all to learn how to do it. Even if you haven't had any dev experience in the past the Sandbox really is quite easy to pickup in a short period of time. It took me all of about 15 mins to show people with no coding experience at all how to throw things together, and now we're already tossing different schemes back and forth....only one more week to go......

    Re: Crysis Released - 11/14

    Was finally able to find a copy at a nearby B&M Best Buy and cancelled my pre-order, so I assume it'll be popping up everywhere else. This is absolutely insane. I don't want so spoil any of the SP missions, but its really good. Multiplayer is ridiculously fun, I haven't had this much FPS MP fun since the Counter-Strike betas. On top of all of that, the full Sandbox2 editor is going to give this an extremely long play-life, well worth the $50 (although for a lot of people being able to play this game properly will be $50 + hardware upgrades).

    MP Tag is -SaK-SuperKing and I'll most likely be throwing up at least one dedicated East Coast Power-Struggle DX10 server in the near future.

    2GB ram (for now)
    8600GTS, 256MB

    Re: Crysis Released - 11/14

    You'll most likely have to run it on medium. I got a Core 2 Duo 3.0ghz and a 8800GT (those things rock BAWLS) that I have OC'd to 695/995 when I play, and the framerates start to dip in really high action areas. (Generally, I leave the settings where I experience little to no dip whatsoever) The GTS, while not a bad card, is noticeably slower than the GT (GT basically outperforming even the GTX at lower resolutions; GTX is a better card at higher resolutions, but wasn't gonna spend $200-300 more on a card that is outperformed at certain settings). You may get away with High if you overclock your GPU / CPU (CPU I plan to do myself when I get better cooling)

    Then again, who knows. The main thing I've noticed is the higher settings are just insane on GPU memory, mine maxes out and I can feel when it does -.- You actually need >1GB graphic memory in order to even pull up Very High settings, which means SLI :/ As amazing a machine it would be, I couldn't bring myself to SLI two 8800GT's just to play Crysis, and to stare at WoW playing at like 400 FPS on max, heh.

    On top of all of that, the full Sandbox2 editor is going to give this an extremely long play-life, well worth the $50 (although for a lot of people being able to play this game properly will be $50 + hardware upgrades).
    As shameful as it is to say so, since I OMFGLove this game and played beta and whatnot... where do you get updated maps? I figure people are working on it, but not sure where to really find a solid Crysis community. My BF2 / COD4 clan which was all but sold on playing Crysis changed their minds, and it seems here its just a few people who even know about it. Would love to get to know some other people / get together with people to play.

    Just browse around at any of the pre-SDK mod sites (Mechwarrior : Living Legends, Obsidian Edge, etc.), although most people involved in the mod community are probably playing atm (I know I am). If you're just looking to make some changes to any of the MP maps, it really isn't that hard to pick up the editor and make your own.

    The "Very High" settings are only limited between XP/Vista (DX10), they aren't restricted by vid mem and they work fine with the 512 or 768 cards (SLI doesn't double your effective GPU memory, the cards can't currently cross access so everything is still duplicated). You can get most of the visual effects under XP on High using the various tweaks floating around, but not everything.

    This seems to be the current trend with this release, and its mostly related to the hardware requirements that are keeping a lot of people from seeing how this game really looks. Anyone local that I game with that is still with the "Pfft, COD4 looks better...wah wah wah" crowd immediately changes their mind once they see it in person on Very High. I'll load up the Assault_SP mission with DX10 / VHigh / 1024x768 (shitty resolution, but even on my rig I have to go this low to maintain 20-30 fps with everything turned on) settings and their usual response is "Great, when is the cutscene over?", then I move around and their jaw drops. I don't think the mainstream gaming community is going to appreciate this engine for at least another ~6 months (Q1/2 2008), although the rapid Nvidia releases are helping. At that point the high end should be able to push 720p / 60 fps, which will look absolutely stunning in motion.

    So.. I WAS going to torrent this game, but from how epic the demo was it would be worth it to just buy, yeh? I don't want to make the same mistake I did with Hellgate London. (Not saying the HGL demo was epic, rofl.)

    2.4 GHz Quad Core
    nVidia 8800 GTS
    4 GB of RAM

    When I played the demo and let it choose my optical settings for me, it set everything to High, not Very High

    Weren't the devs heard saying that pretty much nothing that a normal consumer can buy on the market will be capable of running the game on Very High? I think I remember hearing that.

    lol almost similar, but the point is i can run Crysis on High without any problems. The only time the frame rate goes down is during those cutscene in game movie thingies. weee

    Running SLI for any game is pretty dumb unless you're obscenely rich. Even then, you're paying double the money for about a 10% increase in performance over one card. If you're obsessed with graphics then fine, but for your average Joe gamer who just wants to play the game, medium settings are fine. It still looks amazing on medium and is a pretty fun game to boot.

    Also about the 8800GT, of the few people (6 or 7 I think) I know who got their hands on one, 2 have already overheated in a standard rig. I use the GTS and it gets very hot, I've seen it get up to over 85 degrees C when running Crysis. The GT runs faster and thus is hotter, just something to be aware of. GPUs aren't cheap D:

    Back on Crysis, I was originally unimpressed with the AI in the demo, but later into the game the AI does start to shine and show some pretty neat tactics. I still think cloak is a bit overpowered, and I haven't run into a non-scripted sequence where I used maximum strength/speed. They don't seem all that useful compared to armor/cloak.

    Does anyone else find the controls a bit awkward with the keyboard? I mean if you're running its pretty hard to go to your suit controls since it requires taking your fingers off the WSAD. I kinda wanna play it with an xbox controller so I could map the suit controlls to a bumper for easier accessibility..

    Yup, there was some video / interview of Cevat that was mis-interpreted that had people thinking otherwise (GTS should be able to max the game out or something to that effect). If you're at the top end right now you can just barely run everything maxed at low resolutions with no AF or AA, and it still looks amazing. Right now its pretty much a choice between 30-60 fps with everything on high at high resolutions under DX9/XP or turning all the DX10 candy on using a low resolution and getting 20-30 fps. I'm usually a framerate whore and need 60 fps, but for whatever reason Crysis is a lot more playable than most other games at 20-30 and still feels "smooth".

    Depends what you're trying to run and its generally quite a bit more than a 10% increase. While it usually wont take a game running 60+fps and push it over 100+fps it does help in games where you're getting ~20 fps by pushing it into the 30s, which can make a huge difference in playability. I would however only reccommend it to a very limited group of people, and its foolish to SLI anything other than whatever the current top card is (SLIing something like two GTSes is rather pointless).

    One of my few gripes with the demo was a lack of controller support, but the game does have full native x360 support. While you can't really remap the buttons without using some additional program (supposedly this will be added in a patch) the game does play better through a controller. Suit powers are mapped by default to the left trigger / right thumbstick and it makes switching between them rather seamless. If you're a "fast-twitch" junkie and have to keep keyboard / mouse combo turn on the suit shortcuts. This lets you double tap certain keys to switch suit modes (double tap sprint = speed mode, etc.). You can bind these to whatever you want and it feels more natural than the mouse 3 / radial wheel default.

    I'll have to go buy this some time later this week after I finish installing all of my programs on the new machine. Until I'm done backing shit up, I have to wait. ; ;
