Don't bother with transmigration until postgame.
Other than mages, don't bother making higher rank classes. If you go for postgame, go ahead and make/transmigrate into the highest rank of the classes you want once they're unlocked. Although in the end, the easiest and fastest way to own up the game is to level a few characters on invincible maps, blow through to chapter 9, then spam 9-1 until you're high enough to finish the main game (80-90 should make it easy). Then level Laharl and maybe someone else to around 900-1500 on CoT 3 (I think, might be 2 or something. The one with the 2X exp geos and 9 of the really slow floating guys). Get to the second last level of Baal castle and start capturing surts. Get a few 9999 surts and then finish whatever you have left to do. Transmigration can push your stat caps up more than just leveling, but just leveling will get you returns waaaay faster, and with some simple tactics, 9999 surts are enough for anything without transmigration.
