Meh, I don't know about tanning. Some people are obsessive and overboard and its gross, but I know a few people that specifically go just to even-out their complexion and/or get rid of any breakouts they might have.

However, to me, being natural is much more appealing nowadays. I really don't like many white girls, specifically pale ones, so tanning is ok with me to an extent... but girls with natural haircolor and less makeup if any is just great to me. My girlfriend is asian now, completely natural and completely hot.

Also yea, tanning is fine, some people do look quite a bit better with darker skin. Just don't over do it, or consider tanning the answer to everything. It's when you try to change things that really din't need that much changing in the first place, simply because of a false ideal of what beauty should be, then it gets bad.

I'm Asian, and the thought of having the eyelid surgery has struck me a few times, especially since it's getting cheaper and cheaper. I simply think it's prettier. A caucasian look has always appealed to me. Whether this belief stems from an actual idea of beauty, or a shot self-esteem can be discussed, but ultimately it won't change the fact that I simply think it's prettier. That being said, it doesn't necessarily mean that I'd expose myself to surgery - major, or minor - for beauty's sake, but I can certainly understand where the people who DO get this surgery are coming from.

IMO if you bleach your hair, wear blue contacts, and get some freakish height altering surgery, you won't look like a beautiful cracker. You'll just look silly. Even that picture of Christina Aguilera in the article looked strange to me, her skin is just not meant to be orange.

tbh I don't think this is so much about one race forcing their idea of beauty on others (though in earlier times it was moreso) as much as it is one culture successfully selling their idea of beauty to others. I'd be the absolute last to deny US (white) imperialism in parts of the world, but in most of it it's purely capitalistic. The surgeries are really sad though- ladies, all you gotta do is keep moderately fit and take decent care of yourself. And fakebake is grosssss. Natural skin tones are so much nicer- from black-hinting-blue all the way to vampire-pale (well, I don't *really* want to see your vein structure, but yeah).

I think the eyes and hair parts of the article were a little misleading. Color contacts seem more like an accessory or make-up, and are something white people do as well. The blue contacts for tanner races seems more like a stand-out aesthetic rather than a striving for whiteness- blue eyes on a tan face will attract a lot of attention. As far as hair goes, there are few white women with perfectly straight blonde hair. The article mentioned a lot of Asians lightening their hair, but I kinda think that's a unique cultural trend rather than a whiteness thing (I'm thinking more of initially a punk influence/visual kei sort of thing and then introduction of highlighting that the whole world seems to be into), but I could be wrong.

It sucks being white when you read articles like this, though. Feels like all you can do is try to raise your (future) kids right.
