I don't know about you guys but i found this read quite disturbing for some reason. And to be honest, i'm not even surprised it's focusing itself on asians on the first few pages. Though i am a bit unfounded in saying this, i always did wonder why almost all their anime featured arian characters.

Double eyelid surgery? What the hell? Damn thats beyond desperate and stupid. Why would anyone want to pay $5000 for something thats barely noticeable. It sounds dangerous too, if the doctor screws up you could go blind. My eyes are the last thing I'd let anyone perform surgery on unless it was absolutely necessary.

asians have been doing this for years. I remember reading a book about some of the horror stories of girls not being able to afford proper surgery in china, korea, and other places.

Every culture has their own idea of beauty.

For years, 'big eyes' have been considered a desired trait in beauty.
From animes (huge eyes), to modern day make up (countless items offer to 'widen' your eyes), it's really just the idea of an age.

But, so then his answer to aging was to make himself look whiter? I thougt there were other methods of making yourself look younger that din't make you look like a white woman.

A Japanese girl I know has the "double-eyelid" crease in one eye but not the other. When she was a baby/little kid, her mom would try to use tape to make the other eyelid crease. She said it's actually common to do this (the tape thing) and they sell tape just for it. I've never had this story corroborated though - anyone else ever heard of this?

Only thing i can think of is, because N. American culture being is soo widly disimenated throughout the globe, and the U.S. having such a wide array of influence, causes this to lead to this high regard of "white" features. You won't see this kind of ideal of beauty in many places within Africa just because there isn't enough media proliferating white culture.

I guess it's just the influence of the "empire". Not much different to when Rome became an empire, latin become THE popular language, samething happend when France became an empire.

I thought the general consensus now is that America is full of fat lazy pigs? It's also amusing that white people are going out of their way to change their skin color. If you stay your natural skin color it's considered weird, but going to lie down and fry underneath a tanning bed and risk skin cancer and nasty ass wrinkles is perfectly fine. It'd be nice if people could be content with their coloring, but that will never happen. IMO if you bleach your hair, wear blue contacts, and get some freakish height altering surgery, you won't look like a beautiful cracker. You'll just look silly. Even that picture of Christina Aguilera in the article looked strange to me, her skin is just not meant to be orange.
