Meh, modding a system is way more work than buying the game. I'll just pay for it for the next 5 years until there's an emulator. Who needs mod chips when you can play it on a PC anyway?

What if I pirate it now and buy it later? I'm not modding my Wiii so I won't be playing UR MR GAY, but that's my excuse for (GB / DS) games that will take months to come over here or worse, may never come here(Mother 3). If the game is utter shit, I won't buy it.

For GB games, refer to my post involving emulation. For DS games, the good ones tend to have text, making it difficult to play a piracy'ed JP version. Otherwise, Revenant Wings might have made it almost worth the trouble to get one of those flash cart thingies.

Quite not the point, these are people who are pirating games now or shortly available to them in stores.

Regardless, you could be importing to show JP developers that there is US interest in their offerings. It's what brought such gems as Space Channel 5 and Ikaruga stateside. Pirating their game instead just shows them that there's no reason to spend money localizing and releasing it stateside, since filthy whiteskinned devils would rather illegally download it.

Its more cost efficient to pirate.
If something is more cost efficient, it will be done over the less efficient one. Arguing further is not needed.

It's more cost effective if you ignore the up front investment of the required mod chip, and the time and effort of soldering it into the system (or however you kids do it these days), and the risk that the manufacturer will pull out some new copy protection and make you try to figure out how to shove an update into the chip a few days later. And of course the personal cost that may or may not be incurred due to the knowledge that you're failing to support the people making the games that you may or may not enjoy. This last one is the center of the current argument, as usual. And other than that last one, emulation is obviously the most cost effective solution of all (assuming you already have a PC capable of it of course).

Its not an argument. Its a statement issued towards people who don't care.

    1. The upfront money required is less than half the cost of a game. The installation will run a bit more, but there's people that will do it for free (donations accepted).

    2. The chips are installed to the DVD drive, it is absolutely impossible to detect the modchip through the software side. The SMG isn't detecting a modchip, the "unauthorized device" is, in fact, the burned CD. The retail disc works fine as others have mentioned. Whether or not it's possible via firmware updates via nintendo, i have no idea. It's not difficult to either desolder the chip or solder a toggle switch. None the less, most of the chips are upgradeable, and if there can be a way to work around it, i'm sure they'll release it.

    3. As far as personality conflict for pirating games...I have no soul, HARRRR!

Now continue with the "you're a worthless piece of shit" talk.

On another note, I do buy games. I have zelda, wario ware, tiger woods 07 (i pirated 08 because im not paying for the same game twice, that's just crazy). A couple more maybe.

If it truly was the same game, why bother pirating a copy when you already own one legit? Yet you did bother to pirate '08 instead of simply not buying it.

The most cost-efficient way to solve homelessness is to throw the homeless into the ocean, amirite?

If you own the legit copy and want a backup, you don't have many choices. You cannot simply select "burn copy" in nero and expect to be able to play it. I do have backups of my originals that I did pirate because I do not have an LG drive. Wii games have to be dumped via LG drive or SD card. I bought 07, but I didn't feel obliged to buy 08. I don't feel like I need to pay for ffxi again everytime they have an update. I know, absolutely transparent and irrational comparison, but whatever makes me sleep through the night.

It's a horrible comparison, FFXI charges a subscription fee ($13 a month) and also charges for expansions. Tiger Woods charges no subscription (unless you count XBL, but that's Microsoft not EA) and you seem to think expansions should be free too.

You're totally free to make backups and use backups, but if you don't want to buy '08 then don't download it and play it. I'm also a big proponent of homebrew, it's a shame that homebrew has to be so damn difficult to get into because people have such a low morality threshold when it comes to copyright infringement.

I have no morals, soul, etc etc. I have less in monetary value of burned wii games than 99% of the posters have in illegal MP3's. Go to the oink thread and beat your piracy bible there.

It's ok for you to pirate games because other people get away with pirating music, awesome logic.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize you could differentiate your moral values when it comes to piracy. When I pirate games, I have 10 people telling me im a bad person, when someone talks OInk, there's 10 people asking for invites.

Edit: It's OK for me to pirate games not because people pirate music, but because it is available to me and, as I said, I don't care. It's hypocritical for the people screaming piracy to have thousands of dollars of MP3s on their machines. Do I know they have illegal MP3's on the PC, no, but it's a pretty safe bet.

So while you're playing that hypocrite card, tell me, how many unauthorized copies of songs do I have on my computer?
