If zero, that's cool. But you know you're in the VAST minority. There's such an outcry for pirated games, but pirated music has become so common that it's commonly overlooked and accepted. It's still hypocritical of you not to jump in on every MP3 thread and bitch there. Just because it's commonly accepted or you don't care about music doesn't make it any less trivial. Like I said, go beat your piracy/morality bible in the OInk thread, I really don't care.

There should just be a Piracy debate topic. It seems like almost every video game topic turns into this crap eventually.

The "you must care cause you posted" thing can't really hold water. I mean, there's tons of things I, and other people post about that they don't care about. It's just a meaningless retort when you have run out of stuff to say.

Let me reiterate: I'm emotionally involved in the interesting conversation. I don't care in a sense that there is really nothing you can say that would make me feel the least bit bad about pirating games. Beings I realize what I am doing is really unjustifiable, and yet, I still have no inner-morality conflict, there's really nothing more than can be said that can make me feel otherwise. I just find it funny that theres youtube and music threads that have been up on these boards for a hell of a lot longer than this thread, and I haven't seen you beat your piracy bible there. The only reason you did here is because of your emotional attachment to videogames and the commonplace of illegal MP3's and the youtube phenomena.

The only reason I post about game piracy here is because some people started the whaaaambulance about how they can't play a ripped pre-release SMG on their chipped Wii.

I don't pirate music either (I listen to radio instead) and I'm not super-excited about people pirating music, but just because I'm not crusading against Oink doesn't mean I can't or shouldn't speak out against pirating games.

I never QQd about playing the game, i'm more interested in the large picture. The nintendo copyright fix is absolutely fascinating. Even more fascinating is the mod scene scrambling to fix it and how fast they completely washed out a nintendo anti-piracy move in a matter of a few hours. Even more fascinating is the irony that nintendo's D2C, which was the anti-modchip console release, was the only console that could run the backup. Honestly, when I get SSG, i'll get it, and I'm sure it'll be fun.

I'm not surprised that the mod-chip scene scrambles to fix this issue because there's a lot of money in it for them, from people like yourself, to do everything they can to make console software piracy as accessible and convenient as possible.

Other people were the ones QQing about it; you yourself were lamenting the fact that you went with a crappy mod-chip solution that is apparently slow in releasing firmware patches so that your console can play the newer titles. I'm all for letting you use backups of your software to protect the original from damage, but um, SMG isn't even out, so where's the "legitimate interest" in using a modchip?

I realize what I am doing is really unjustifiable
Think this sums it up well. Im gonna pull some more made up on the spot percentages, but i'm sure over 99% of modchip users have illegitimate reasons to have them. With that said, you'll never get the answer you are looking for, certainly not in the SMG case.

I know this crap was on page 1 and its kinda off topic but lol, GS employees get fired for playing games at work? What the fuck? Wow and I got an offer from the EB across the street to go work there, fuck that shit. I'd die of boredom if I couldn't play games when nobody is in the store.

They can, and pretty much any other place could as well.. but ability is a different matter than will. If you've got cool co-workers and there's nothing to do and there's nobody in the store (nothing to do is a very rare term, as there's normally always SOMETHING that can be done, perp counts, category counts, TOH, etc) then you could probably get away with it... but it doesn't mean its allowed, even if everyone lets you. Likewise, wherever it is you work, they might let you, and nobody might care, but it could still be against policy and could potentially fire you for it, I can't fathom a place without that policy in somewhere... otherwise workers could just play all day without risk of being fired. Its a catch-all, somewhat.

Its all irrelevant anyhow, Illinois (and many other states) are at-will employment states, meaning they can fire you at any time for any reason without repercussion, it sucks but meh.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy In Stores

Arizona is a right to work state as well. But I mean my manager and I play games when it's slow, the district manager walked in on me playing guitar hero today as a matter of fact and watched me finish the song before he started asking me stuff about how we've been doing, shit, even the fucking regional manager caught me playing phantom hourglass and didn't care. I don't play games unless there really is absolutely nothing to do. I've filled all the holes in the wall, done all my paperwork for the day, straightened up the store, done cycle counts, done trades, and of course if nobody is there. But I get to play games at least 2 sometimes 3 hours in a 7-9 hour shift, sometimes more depending on the day <_< It just seems ridiculous to me that you can get fired for playing games when you work at a game store... but maybe that's cause I've been spoiled And even if a state is a right to work state (Illinois, Arizona) most places have a set of rules they follow for all their locations nationwide so they wont fire you for no reason.

New store we're opening up might end up being that way... its more out of the way (developing area, but not quite 'there' yet, and in a section of all stores opening up that won't be open for a few months, so most people will prolly assume its still closed) so it will probably be slow for a looong time. At my current store we stay pretty busy... will see, I guess. Store Manager is pretty badass, she's pretty chill, but very by-the-book so not sure how that will be. Our district manager plays wow, but not sure how much of a hardass he is

Will see I guess, it blows, but its understandable of course.
