    Re: Call of Duty 4

I lost my interest in Warhawk after about 2 weeks full of glitches... i'm sure it's good right now, but i'll probably be so rusty that i'll just keep dying if I had even attempted to play it again..

Guess i'll stick to CoD4 for a while as well.

I feel the same way, the Beta ending was just so... GD IT! Can't wait to get back into this again and get me some skills! Switched my PS3 preorder (which the screens above are from, don't think that was an early release, just scans from the game off the production line from what i have read) to 360 due to the fact that i know many more people that were planning on playing it there.

    Can't wait.

You know, it is hard to just pinpoint it. It is just a blast. The way the multiplayer is paced works very well. You won't take more than 3-4 hits (1-2 if sniped) before you drop dead. This makes for some very fast paced fights, at times getting pretty crazy. That makes the firefights quite fun. Unlike Halo3 where you may unload a full clip into a person and still have them run up and melee you down... you aren't gonna last long once someone gets a bead on you.

The customization is great because it offers some originality to an extent to each person, and the way they want to outfit/skill their player. Create a Sniper that has perks that make him harder to find, or harder to kill. Make a Machine Gunner with some serious stopping power and defenses at his disposal. In addition, having certain Perks only unlocked when you get enough XP (yet another great part of this game) makes you want to keep getting better and better.

The game is just smooth, and can be very fast paced and strategic at the same time. This is all based on the Beta, but the fact that there are going to be 13 maps that i have never seen, and countless perks and weapons that were not in the beta, as well as many playlists that were not available in the Beta... exciting!

My two cents. And yeah, add my Gamertag (Graelinn) on Live, would love to jump into some BG Games and... this is going to hold my interest far longer than Warhawk =P
That does seem pretty cool lol, might have to pick this up after all.

So is it like Battlefield then? Because the XP and the upgrades make it seem like battlefield. Just better looking. That game held my attention for a month though, this might be longer. Not to mention, I'm starting to make the transition from PC fps to console, PC ones just seem to be dying. I might have to pick this up.

I tend to prefer smaller, closer-quarters maps like SOCOM (PS2 series), rather than huge epic warzones like the Battlefields. The whole customizable "builds" adds a really cool new element to fighting instead of everyone having the same stuff at their disposal. Either way, I'll still greatly enjoy this game since I love human-vs-human FPS.

    Re: Call of Duty 4

I am pretty excited to see what these other 13 of 16 maps are all like. The 3 in the Beta were all fun in their own way, though people quickly developed an affinity for Crash more than Overgrown or Vacant it seemed. I had fun in each of them. As much crap as anyone running around in a Sniper Set gets (in every game) it is still fun now and then to throw on the Ghillie Suit, the Radar Jamming Perk and just park it in the grass for a few kills until they home in on you and beat you to death.

Even the 8ish hour Single Player looks great. I have heard great things about it, and I have always liked Infinity Ward's policy of keeping all achievements in Single Player to keep people playing Multi... focused on PLAYING Multi. Apparently there is also something called Arcade ... something, that you unlock after beating the Single Player the first time. You can then play through again, picking individual chapters or just a full 2nd playthrough, and this time you awarded points for Headshots, Grenade Kills, etc, and these accumulate to some kind of Single Player Rank...

But yeah, the map previews in the link up top look exciting!

As is this: fourzerotwo's twitter as of 3:30PST mentioning the "Halloween surprise"

    Re: Call of Duty 4

I thought Infinity Ward said the PS3 version was going to get something special since the 360 had the beta and the PC had the demo. Maybe not though but whatever I'm just glad these are the first multiplatform games that have been built on each console seperately so no crappy ports.

    Anyway some more PS3 screenshots:

He has more pictures in his photobucket site http://s94.photobucket.com/albums/l97/adams828/ don't want to post them all to spare the load time.

Gah, the CoD games are so good at making the environment seem so authentic. Those look really nice.

Just for the record this is no way a crack at the xbox360 but to show that the ps3 version is definitely worth getting, after all the xbox version did get a beta.

"Infinity Ward personally assured us that development occurred simultaneously on all three platforms, and that there wasn't a base system. With that said, the console similarities end when it comes to textures, lighting and resolutions, because those three areas make the PlayStation 3 version definitely excel over the Xbox 360 SKU."

Not true. The ps3 version was a later build than the 360 beta. From a COD4 developer

During development we frequently tweak the color balances in the levels to achieve the look and feel that we’re shooting for. What you’re seeing in these two videos are two completely different visual styles for the level that were tried. That’s why the older 360 shot has a distinct blueish tint, while the more recent PS3 shot shows the more appropriate middle eastern feeling lighting.

You can also some differences in the geometry in the two shots. Broken walls, windows, etc… Every level goes through at least one “detail pass”. The designers will rough in geometry and do a certain level of detail, but it’s the environment artists that really make each level shine. The version of the level shown in the PS3 shot has been through one or two more detail passes than the one shown in the 360 shot. That said, all levels (single player and multi) use identical geometry and textures across all platforms. If nothing else, the shots show an interesting look at the evolution of a level.

    Re: Call of Duty 4

I remember that post/topic though Stee. It started a huge flame war of fanboy vs fanboy with people pointing out that "clearly the PS3 screen pwns the 360's" and then came that developers comment. I took his comment to mean that the screenshots were from different stages in either system's build and as such not a fair comparison. I still was under the impression that the two builds were coming along at the same time but that the screens that were in that topic were from different stages. The 360 shot was from an earlier stage in its development whereas the PS3 shot was more recent.

I just took that to mean that there was a 360 screenshot that was much more recent that could have been held up to the PS3's and they would have looked nearly identical.

In any sense, most every PS3 vs 360 argument on the COD forums has been quashed by a Dev or IW Lackey coming in and saying that they have made every possible attempt to make the games as identical as possible. The last thing i heard officially is that due to the different systems limitations there WILL be levels on each console that look better than the others but overall the games are as similar as possible. That is good news, as screenshot comparisons are so ... bah.

PS Epical, took me a second to figure out who the hell you were, but i did... and you were added to my Live F List =P

EDIT,PS,OHYEAH: As for the PS3 'bonus', in regards to the IW statement that "all 3 systems would see some love" (360 Beta, PC Single Player Demo) it looks like if the PS3 gets anything, it will be after launch. I don't really care... but i could see how some PS3 owners that didn't get to play the Beta would.

The Halloween Surprise turned out to be a series of strange videos. Check the first one out.

    Gamefly? =P

Not a knock, since that is what I am going to have to do, only thing is i currently have Halo3 Gamefly'd and am still having fun with it, but i want to check out some others that are not quite "must buys" for me yet. I am not kidding myself by trying to convince myself that CoD4 won't be in the tray for a good long time.

    Re: Call of Duty 4

That's a problem i'm having with GH3 right now heh, that and CoD4 will occupy most of the relatively small time I have for games in the next couple of months..

As for gamefly, I'm done talking about it but it's probably what i'll end up doing with most of these games.. i'd rather save time and money, i'll just leave it at that.

Is anyone still playing Warhawk? I think it's been like 2 months since I even played a random non-ranked game..

    Re: Call of Duty 4

It has been about 3ish weeks since i played Warhawk, if not more. Kinda sad that it ended up happening like that, was a lot of fun at first but the problems killed it for me. I don't even know if this December Patch/Update/Expansion will help me get back into it.

I was having trouble playing it over the CoD4 Beta when i got invited XD, so chances are that that won't be any different come December. I need to add you gents on Live, but i keep forgetting. So far only have Epical and Po added.

Warhawk was great on the surface. But after awhile, considering it was an online only game, it lacked a lot of depth in its online play.
