I've always tipped the barber, live in Northeast.
IDK, maybe I wouldn't if the guy owned the place himself, but if its a salon, where I know the stylist is just cutting hair and doesn't actually have ownership, a tip probably makes up a lot of their salary.
Can't stand small talk while I'm getting a haircut. I can understand maybe if a person goes to the same person to get their hair cut/styled every week/month/whatever, but not otherwise. Only small talk I hate more than this is when I'm in an elevator.
I've always tipped 1$, btw, just because that's what my parents used to give me to give to whoever cut my hair when I was little.
I tip way too much to my barber. But she's also a friend. My other barber(s) I don't even tip because I went to school with them and just from working there 2 of them have cadillacs and 2 have bmws. Apparently there's money in cutting hair. lol
I'm sort of surprised more people don't have a set barber/stylist. I usually like to know exactly what im getting when I go get my hair cut. Having a different person/going to a different place usually always ends in a disaster. Nothing pisses me off like having to watch some random person mess up my hair then paying them afterward. It's like "thanks for making me look retarded for the next 3 weeks, heres 15$"
Last time I got my hair cut was quite some time ago... a few years I grew an afro, then I got tired of it and a few months later I decided to grow it out again.Originally Posted by Saraphym

But otherwise, I probably would have one.
For a person who's as 'not busy' as I am, it's generally a timing issue, when I call for an apointment it's more about meeting the time I've picked out to get a haircut than anything else, I go to a nice enough joint that I'm not too woried about it, though there are definatly stylists that I have preferred.
weird coincidence or purposeful coincidence? 8)Originally Posted by SilverBreeze
no, just weird, no way in hell I'd call myself a stylist if I even decided to cut someones hair.
It's gotten to the point where I don't even call for appointments anymore, the only time I call is to say if I WON'T be there heh.
I've been going to the same barber for five years. I know him pretty well so I can just walk in whenever and he'll give me a cut. Don't really have a lot of time for small talk other than a quick how's it going, anything new, etc..., because my hair takes like 2 minutes to cut.
Oh and I don't tip him cause he owns the place, and tipping him would be pointless.
I have been going to the same barber for 15 years now (my dad has been going to him for close to 35 years now). I hope he stays in the business long enough so I take my kids to him too. It may sound kind of lame but I would never even consider for a split second going to another barber shop. Whenever I go in there, everyone knows each other and it is awesome. I'm usually the only young person in there and everyone else is old, but we have so much fun joking around (dirty old men are funny).
It's a really small place called Jon's Barber Shop in Chicago. Jon is the owner and there is another barber named Marty. Although it's a small shop with only three barber chairs, it's always busy. You usually have to call and make an appointment a few hours in advance, but it's awesome whenever I call and say "Hey Jon, this is Dan how ya doin'?" and they immediately know who it is.
I talk to my barber about everything; mainly sports. He's a big fan of the Cubs, Bears, and Bulls so we talk about them all the time, amongst other things. I usually tease Marty about his old age and him not being able to "get it up." To retort he just yells at me from across the room and says "you just wait Danny your time will come." There's really old WWII vet that comes in to the shop a lot. We call him "pink" (kind of like Blue from Old School). The guy is so delusional that he always comes up to me and asks me if he killed me at Iwo Jima or something like that.
The best part about the place is that's an old school barber. Uses the old fashioned blade, hot shaving cream, etc. I never have to tell him what I want. I walk in there and he knows exactly what to do with my hair and he does a perfect job every time. This thread made me realize how much I appreciate my barber shop.
Ironically enough, I have an appt tomorrow at 11am.
And I just remembered that when I was wee little boy, the barber would always give me Smarties candy before I left.
That sounds like something out of a movie or some shit.Originally Posted by Daahan
Pretty win though.
Does the barber shop have that red, white, and blue spinning thingy outside the building?Originally Posted by Daahan
Haven't had my hair cut for like 2 years. It's about halfway down my back. I never tied it back until recently, and it's caused a lot of breakage. I know shit about hair care. XD
Anyways, I went to 1 of 2 places when I would get my hair cut: My uncle's girl's house or the local barber shop. I wouldn't speak unless spoken to, and I'm not one for small talk. Weather I lack social skills, or it's the fact that I generally have shit to talk about, I don't know. I did tip my uncle's GF, but not the barber guy. Barber guy drew blood three too many times.

This is what we get, would you tip for that?
Haricut: $5.40 (AED 20.00)
Shave: $2.70 (AED 10.00)
The crazy massage: free
I probably would if the massage actually feels better than it looks like it would >.>Originally Posted by Firas_Gattz
It's actually really good. Notice how the guy has a big smile on his face, lol.
where's the "i only respond if they talk" option.
I don't start conversations, i want my hair cut so i can get on with my life. but if they ask a question or something i'm not gonna be rude and ignore them so i'll answer with short answers and maybe they'll get the point.
