    Interesting crafting observation

Should be interesting to see if anyone else has noticed this or if it's all placebo.

I tend to get a bunch of skillups when I first start synthing, a much higher rate in the first stack or so than the 2nd stack or the third. Then after awhile my skillup rate will "reset" and it'll be high again and then drop off. Is it possible SE has some sort of endurance system in place for skillingup so that your character's chance of attaining a skillup decreases with each and every skillup and then that "timer" decays naturally? Sort of like how your chances of successfully mining go down over time, etc.

I've done some tests with zoning after the first few skillups I get, and it tends to produce overall better results (perhaps resetting the endurance timer?).

    Anyway, anyone else noticed this?

    Re: Interesting crafting observation

My first thought when reading your post was "it's random". But thinking about it, there's something similar I see all the time : specific events often happen very close to each others.

While fishing, more often than not I get 2 or 3 skillups in a row, then none for an hour or more. While crafting T0 and T1 batches, HQs are very often back-to-back. I haven't been skilling any craft in the last few months, but I clearly remember noticeing the same behaviour a lot. It all could be just random though, since randomness can produce everything and anything.

It's pretty hard to get meaningfull statistics out of this, but I have been recording all my synths for 2 years and have tons of data...so if anyone has a good idea about how to measure this effect for NQs and HQs, I'm interested.

I'm off to class in a bit so I can't add too much detail, but essentially I've seen the same thing. (I'm 100+3 Leathercraft.)

    Re: Interesting crafting observation

i'd always theorized that there was some kind of pool pulled from for virtually every random event even HQs and skillups. no idea if it's player dependent, zone dependent, or (by far the most likely) purely me overthinking a very obviously random system.

    Re: Interesting crafting observation

Personally I haven't noticed this much, but with my craft (goldsmithing), I normally don't do more than about 12-24 synths at a time due to the cost of most of my skill-up synths. I have noticed the HQ thing on tier1 and tier0 though. I remember skilling up and getting 3 tier0 hq's in 12 synths...

To me more mats in inventory = shittier skill up rate.

It's like the game just knows you're going to do 72 synths anyway so it might as well screw you.

I've noticed that too. I tend to get better results towards the end, rather than the beginning. Sit down with a pile of ammo materials, and most of my HQs happen towards the end when I'm down to a short stack or so.

    Re: Interesting crafting observation

So I'm fairly new to the crafting scene still and I've been working on clothcraft. I got it up to 92.6 and decided to take a break for a bit, due to funds and just tired of grinding out synths and not seeing many skillups and whatnot. So I picked it back up recently and figured, meh, I'll get enough to do 24 errant slops synths. It surprised me how many skillups I got, I ended up making 20 errant slops and hit clothcraft 94, capping it out. So I decided to keep going just because hey, if the skillups are coming in like crazy, don't stop. So I started doing dance shoes, ended up getting to 95 that night but, towards the end it was a huge grind, I spent a lot of money and just ended up not getting much in the way of skillups.

I stopped again and three days later I bought out rainbow mats on the auction house. I'd read this thread and being superstitous or just wanting to try anything to get more skillups (>.>) I zoned and logged out/logged back in and starting making 'em. I ended up getting 13 skillups off 15 synths. Putting me at 96.2 clothcraft. I took one screenshot of the 6 skillups out of 8 synths.

ANYWAY. After that longwindedness, I just wanted to know if that was actually normal. I just heard (and experienced) so many times that once you get into these higher levels that the skillups are few and far between. So is that normal? Did they change the rate of skillups maybe or just a lucky day(s)? For those that believe, I checked the moon phase during both crafting sessions and it was nothing special, one was 88% or something around that and the other was waxing 14%.

In my recent Fishing spree, I have noticed this a lot too. 3 skillups in a row is really nice when it happens :)

    Re: Interesting crafting observation

It's not normal to get that many in a row, but I've certainly noticed that skillups tend to occur at the start/once a certain amount of time has passed in my crafting time. Skillups occur in high density. There's a very easy way to test this for those who plan on doing some crafting.

Take some measurements using the following system.

Record how many synths it takes you to get 3 skillups.

Record how many synths it takes you to get 2 skillups.

Then do the above and zone after ever 2, or every 3. If the number is significantly lower for the zoning method (after getting a decent amount of data) it'll be obvious that this is the case.

I don't have anything I'm planning on skillingup currently sadly, I should look into maybe leveling another subcraft so I can throw some more data on the pile.

I've noticed something similar to this. As of me hitting 90 leather, i've cut back to 12-24ish synths a day and skillups have gone up drastically. 70-90 i used to do in excess of maybe 30-40 per day, and skillups were okay but died down after i'd been in the same spot for a while. My best 90+ is 5 skillups in a row, and thats on the day my crystal is strong to (tiger masks on windsday). Full Moon in a few hours, so we'll see how my skillups fare then.

I want to sacrifice you, bathe in your blood and achieve that kind of skillup rate in the 90's, as it may only be done via dark, unholy rituals.

    Seriously. That's amazingly good luck.

I might consider sacrificing myself if I could guarantee that skillup rate everytime I tried to skillup! I haven't attempted since then, but I'll see what the rainbow mats are looking like when I log in and see if it'll happen again. :D
