I did. On two playthroughs I think. Although really, you only need to do it for two characters, and the same tricks for getting a bazillion AP can be used to get a bazillion gil with one of Rikku's secret weapons. Then once you have 3 characters with quick attack and hardcapped spd and str, Wakka's overdrive isn't worth using anymore.

What makes me laugh is that thanks to being able to change Tidus's name, no one ever says his name throughout the whole damn game or its sequel. Honestly they have to refer to him through stuff like "STAR OF THE ZANARKAND ABES" throughout the whole game when they talk about him, whose bright idea was it to do that?

Thankfully in FF12, they went ahead and said "Fuck you" to player name customization. Sure, names are fun and all during the NES/SNES/PS1 where voice acting didn't exist, but once the voices come in you better go by the name.

Imho, the only games by which you should be able select character names are one where the character is a silent protagonist.

They did that for X-2, Tidus wasn't part of the (main) game but he was still referred as "you know who" "him" "the one" etc, was stupid. Especially when Kingdom Hearts series referred to him by name.

I liked the swap-out battle system, which kept you using most all of the characters regularly. I liked, in a way, the linear nature of most of the game. Kept things on-task and easy to pick back up if my playtimes were irregular. The story, eh, was alright...but I haven't been overly impressed with any of the 3D FFs anyway, so I take it for what it is.

Really the only thing I hated with FFX was Blitzball. Couldn't stand it. But I also didn't put 200+ hours into it like some. I think I had 40-50 or so, got the ultimate weapons 'cept Wakkas, all the Aeons, beat the game and moved on.

Random fact : In FF12 international, they gave people the ability to control summons and their moves -_-

Silent protagonists are weird when voice acted (hi2usuikoden5<_<)

I wish they'd just do like the FFT port, let you rename them, but still used official names when voiced.

Honestly hope naming goes the way of the dodo in voiced games. Nothing makes me shake my head more than going to a friend's to see he named Link as "Fagballs," or Tifa as "Funbags." Or when he whips out an Earthbound ROM, "What's your favorite food? Sex!" Then again, I actually give a shit about immersion.

Even if voiced games take over the cRPG market, there'll be plenty of MMOs, FPSes, etc. for people to flood with Sephiroth, Legolas, SSJ4, SSJ5, etc. permutations.
