is the night life dead?

ive played ffxi on and off since a few months after NA launch. and in that time ive always played at night(12am-6am est) since i work 2nd shift but as of late i feel like i would have to take some vacation time or switch to 1st shift to get things done anymore. recent attempts to gain access to sea have fizzled due to an inability to get a full party(its sad when you have to run through a capped zone to get a cutscene. im looking at you three paths!). ive solo'ed 2 levels of drg due to both a lack of invites and a lack of jobs to make a party myself. i almost cant participate in ls events anymore because they shifted to earlier event times to acommidate the eu players(wich i dont hold against them). i can still merit on my 75 monk but i usually get invites when i temporairly switched to monk to travel somewhere. so is the night life dead? or am i incredibly unlucky.

For the most part, it seems pretty much dead... unfortunately I'm in the same boat as you for now!

Generally of the 2 types of players there are, if the person is up at a retarded time of the night at all and not asleep/getting ready for work/doing something with their life, there's a high likelihood they're haijin and camping some sort of HNM.

I usually play sometime around 6:00pm~6:00am and I feel like I get more done at night then the rare times I play during the day. I never have your problem, in fact I just did Tenzen's path a few days ago on my second character from little after midnight and we finished up at around 4:00am and right after that I did some sergeant assualts before heading to bed.

A majority of the NA players probably work and/or go to school during regular day hours, they cherish their sleep (I know I'm definitely one of them). Just wait until summer until the non-working folk are out of school and stay on all night.

Because since implementation of world transfer services and the ability to choose what world you start out on, balancing out the players as evenly as possible has become more difficult?

Before these two things were implemented, the ONLY way to pick a server with 100% certainty, was to get a world pass from a friend, as a new character. The other way, was to create and re-create again and again until you end up on the server you wanted, also as a new character. Then there was what's happening on Odin now - world migration, but these were only FROM selected worlds, and TO selected worlds, to keep balance up. It's why it's happening again.

PS. Also, nobody is being FORCED to move servers.

Please define night hours. There are times of day that have relatively few people ever since this game came out. The times when most NAs are at work and many JPs start to go to sleep.

Bahamut is usually active almost all the time. And as for you saying this is a dieing game, well, I constantly see new players come in. I'd hardly say FFXI is dieing right now. It certainly was hemmoraging in the past, but the game population seems relatively stable right now.

If your statement came from some emo-pessemistic view of the game, spend your time slitting your wrists instead of saying that cliche statement on these forums.

I notice it being dead more during the middle of the day (9-1 PST for me) but night time theres tons of people looking for party on the lower levels.

I'm usually on from 10pm-2/3am EST and its definitely difficult to find groups who are doing things/starting events at that hour of the night. Don't know if its specific to my server, but most events that are held by a lot of LSes I've seen start around 6-8 pm EST.

Of course it depends on your server. On Phoenix there are a handful of shells that operate in the twilight hours.
