Uprising? Have you completely forgotten about the greeks of yesteryear with their massively gay populous, or considered that this uprising might just be because people are slowly becoming more open minded of such a thing so now more people can come out without as much fear?

The word 'gay' or 'fag' will probably never be illegal.
I always thought the word nigger originally meant "ignorant" and that it was just an insult slave owners decided to label all slaves with. I remember a long long time ago some politician got in trouble because he used the word "niggardly" or something by the dictionary definition and people went "OMG RACIST" when he wasn't talking with or about black people.
Niggardly has nothing to do with the word "Nigger", completely unrelated in an etymology and useage sense. Even if you used the word niggardly describing a black person it wouldn't have anything to do with racism.

In my opinion this is the correct answer. People (male and female, straight and gay) have their sexual orientation affected after conception but before birth by hormones during pregnancy. This isn't a "gay issue" it's a "people issue". We're all undergoing the same developmental process, and just a few tweaks along the way help determine where we fall on the gay-straight scale.

This whole genetics theory people keep talking about is unfounded and silly.

Like I said, it's not genetics. But we ARE born this way, with no choice in the matter.

In another thread I posted a comment to the effect that gay men are more masculine than str8 men. Not so much in their mannerisms, but in their behaviors. No one took the bait, but this explains why:

Gay men have also been shown to have higher levels of circulating androgens [1] and larger penises [2], on average, than straight men.

Gay men have more older brothers on average, a phenomenon known as the fraternal birth order effect. It has been suggested that the greater the number of older male siblings the higher the level of androgen fetuses are exposed to .
Bolded the really funny part. I'd have to say it's true in my experience.

You're assuming the trait is based on the combination of one pair of genes or that it is a dominant trait. It is most likely something that comes from the expression of a multiple gene combination or from recessive genes which would explain why it it hasn't died out. People can carry part of the gene for it and not express it and when they have child with someone possessing the corresponding gene it would result in a child expressing that trait. There are also alot of examples of traits that are detremental to an organism but haven't died out because they are resessive and can not be expressed in an organism that only possesses part of the genes for the trait. There is a study, which i will find a reference for if you want me to, where nearly 100% of genetically identical twins have the same sexual orientation be it heterosexual or homosexual. The lack of exactly 100% is probably due to people not being honest with themselves about their orientation. This supports the assertion that genetic factors are the cause as apposed to environmental factors.

But all this is moot, mainly because who the fuck gives a shit what sexual preference people have. I'm sorry if your religion lacked the foresight to make a policy that didn't conflict with science and logic. Other religious beliefs have been disproven and i don't understand why its so hard for people to get it through their skulls that maybe they were wrong about this too.

Ah, I think it was my friend who made the connection between the words, but he wasn't a smart fellow, though it doesn't say much that I believed him.

But that news thing still did happen, just to show the extent of how taboo certain words/sounds can be.

Please, please find this study, as I was under a very different impression about identical twins.

Ok, I'm finding #s in the area of 30-50% rate of homosexuality in the other identical twin if one is homosexual. Hardly a "genetic imperative" coup. Since they both grew in the same womb, they were probably exposed to similar hormones...

Let's hope they both don't inherit the incest gene.

I played with a pair of gay identical twins once. They said they'd been fucking since they were like 12.

Each other, they didn't have their first 3-way until they were 17. Said their parents caught them a # of times, and tried to send them to counseling. Pretty interesting guys.

He said "genetic defect" because the idea of a gay gene would be completely contrary to the goal of genetics, to ensure reproductive success. Black hair has nothing directly to do with reproductive success, at least nothing on the scale of avoiding sex with females.

In my opinion, being gay is mainly influenced by environment. Not the "environment in the uterus" thing, the kid's surroundings and upbringings. There's so much more that can be done to influence a kid's behavior when he's growing up than exposing him to varying levels of hormones in the womb. I think people just have a tendency to forgo the most simple explanation for the one that blames the fewest people.

Dormant doesn't mean rare or disappearing, it just means that not every single person down the family tree will be gay just because a parent is. Therefore, someone could have a dormant "gay gene", but be straight, and have two kids, one gay and one straight, both with the "gay gene". The straight one goes on to have more kids, and the dormant gene never disappears and still is active in plenty of people without causing its own extinction.
