Gah they are going to let you download entire albums people, ENTIRE ALBUMS!!! that screams at me to buy the game by itself. Even if the GH controller might be a bit better, it's still makes this game extremely more awesome than GH to me.

The most appealing thing about Rock Band to me is that Coheed is in it. That alone along with the promise of downloadable content is pretty sexy.

GH3 sucks ass honestly. I played it with a girlfriend of mine friday and it got boring and we actually went to GH2 in favor of some songs. The set list of GH3 is total fail, feels way to short and as a result we simply could only find fun in doing co op and playing different parts occasionally to bring a new life to the same songs. Overall though, I can't say GH3 really had be going, Rock Band looks like it has more potential but not as much hype obviously as GH3. Really GH3 is also boring because it's only the guitar and those 5 buttons. I mean, after a certain point you start to see patterns and things become very boring. Especially if you play on expert and have nothing to really work towards. It is a fun game to pull out on a lull friday night like I did but I mean, besides that Rock Band would probably be the better choice for a gamer :/

I'm not sure what's with the competition people keep fabricating between GH3 and Rock Band.
Sure, they are both Rhythm games, but thats about it.

Guitar Hero = competitive series (especially now with GH3), shoot for the high score, kick your friend's ass, etc.
Rock Band = more relaxed game, designed for parties and groups of friends to play.

I have all the GH games, and I'll be getting Rock Band as well.

That is so ridiculously false. Nobody has mastered any of the GH games on Expert yet, so there's plenty to go.
HellAshes is probably the closest, with FCs on nearly everything, being very good with squeezing for a high score, and his -1 run on Jordan.
He's been playing 5+ hours per day for ages now.

They didn't get "jewed" though, it was literally their decision.

Edit: Just as a clarification, they probably couldn't technically use the title "Guitar Hero", since Activision now owns Red Octane, and thus the name. However, they still could have continued down the exact same road as before to compete with Activision's/Neversoft's product by making a new "Guitar Hero" under another name. But, they chose a different path, one that was deliberately designed NOT to compete with Guitar Hero 3 (As Activision would crush them, they have so much more money)

Well of course it was their choice to expand onto guitar hero and add drums/vocals etc. But Activision really was being a bunch of pricks about it. They wouldn't let them use the circles as notes, so they had to change them to the squares, Activision also wouldn't let Harmonix use any of gibson's guitars because they made gibson sign an exclusivity agreement with them, thus the stratocaster. Plus you have activision making all these press releases about how guitar hero has "won" this round of music games. Now I personally don't care, because either way if it has toy instruments I'm going to buy them, but if you go into the nitty gritty, activision really is being assholes to harmonix. Which is part of the reason why the rock band guitars dont work with GH3, but vice versa it does.

Being owned by the biggest company != most resources.
A company devoted entirely to developing games (and not to mention a much greater understanding of the industry) will devote far more resources to the game than something like Viacom that probably doesn't care too much about games, not to mention their success hardly hinges on the gaming industry.

Its no coincidence, that after being bought by Activision, that Red Octane/Neversoft were able to obtain licenses for songs like "One", which never would have happened with Harmonix's limited budget.

THere is a meter at the top right that fills up as you're playing the song, telling you how many stars you are getting. yea we got our allocations and we cant preorder more than that, because chances are, we wont get anymore for a long time and we cant guarantee them to people. so if you want it and find a gamestop that can still preorder one, thats really your only shot.

Eh? I bought GH3, played it and I liked it (I still play it every day actually), I had a few complaints about it but it wasn't a purchase I regret at all. Rock band though looks simply amazing and, well, it is because I've played it a few times already. The drum kit is big but it's not that big, I have a really small room and I'll be able to have them set up constantly. The reason I made the post is because:

1) A lot of people don't know rock band exists
2) A lot of people don't know all the features about it
3) People come into my store all the time and say "Have you seen that new game that's a rip off of guitar hero?" And I /facepalm and have to explain to them what happened. I want the game to succeed. I think it's awesome and I want to let as many people know about it as I can. In fact, if even 1 person read this of the 850+ views that it has and I convinced them to buy it then I'll be happy. Because you see, more sales for Rock band = more money Harmonix gets, more money harmonix gets = more songs and more DLC, more DLC and songs = better the game will be.

It kinda sucks they don't have a WIi version yet and they probly wont for awhile. Seeing as the wii version of GH3 was the 2nd best seller next to the 360 version, if they did release a Wii version it would be pretty cool. I'm not downplaying GH3 at all as I think it was a good game, neversoft did an amazing job with it. There are a few complaints I have about it;

1) Co-op career isn't online
2) Co-op career doesn't give you individual stats (guitar stats and bass stats)
3) When you miss a note in co-op both screens shake (this might seem like a small detail, but when you're trying to 5* songs on expert it's a big deal)
4) They fucked with the HO/PO system in a way that made me have to relearn how to do them

As I said earlier, I liked the game, but it had some rough spots. The main reason I like Rock band so much is what I said earlier somewhere. Some of the songs on GH3 I really really like, but I didn't like playing them. In Rock Band if I don't like playing the guitar parts I can sing, do drums, etc etc. It has me excited. As for being cheaper... they're technically the same price, in fact you could argue that rock band is cheaper. 170 dollars gets you the game, guitar, drums and microphone. GH3 100 got you the game and guitar... so if you say that 60 is for the game and 40 for the guitar, for 70 dollars you're getting a microphone and a drum kit which seems pretty cheap to me. Like I'm telling a lot of people, if you think the game is too rich for your blood, just buy the game by itself. Use your GH3 guitar and just play the guitar part. With that scenario, you get 60 songs for 60 bucks, and access to all the DLC, which you can argue all you want about how guitar hero 3 is better than Rock Band, but Rock Band's DLC completely obliterates GH3. If you think otherwise you really are dense.

There's no denying that the DLC in Rock Band is better. That's probably the biggest thing going for it.

As for price, I paid $80 for the Wii version of GH3 at Costco (was doing some Pld shopping and picked it up), so it's not $60 for the game and $40 for the Guitar. For Wii, I'd say more like $50 for the game and $30 for the Guitar. Assuming a $160 price tag on RB, that's an extra $80 for Drums and a Mic. The drums seem nice from the pic I saw, but I don't want them that bad if they're gonna cost as much as a new game itself (assuming $20 for the Mic and $60 for the drums)

The MTV/Harmonix thing was cause it kinda seemed like you wanted people to play RB instead of GH3 partially because you didn't like GH3 (or at least the songs) much. I'd rather prefer people play both (or at least give each a try) since they both are/seem like great games.

In the meantime, anyone know if/when extra guitars will be sold seperately for Wii?
