So uh, is there a full band kit for RB3 for a first time adopter of the series or should I just expect to buy individual bits from madcatz?

Great success! I knew I got the keyboard for a reason, can't wait for some of these songs, mostly Runaway though.
So been humming and hawwing buying RB3 for last week <_< Somebody convince me it's a good buy.
Been like a year since I've played RB2 and all of a sudden hard guitar is hard :s I wasn't ever the best, but I could play most songs on expert before so D:
Rb3 is totally worth it, if you have the other games you can import the songs from everything except The Beetles game. The song selection and the way they did world tour this time around is awesome. They also have goals that you can play for, instead of just playing, like you have to hit so many notes on a certain song, consecutive star power, longest star power, etc. Goals also built in for other Rockband games and download songs, plus there's a keyboard, which is freaking awesome. There's no longer money that you win on each character you make too, so whatever you unlock is linked to your profile/gamer tag and can be used by any characters you make.
Kinda lame that it costs an extra dollar to get the pro guitar/bass chart but at least all the pro drums were updated for free. I haven't bought the game yet but I will just cause pro drums is so fun. Looking forward to learning how to play pro guitar, and keyboard is hard as hell. I tried pro keys on an easy song and failed. I think it would have been better if they had done the keyboard with a score/sheet music style instead of the normal rhythm game charts with falling notes.
Not saying RB3 isn't great, it's a nice addition to the franchise, but it doesn't seem to have the impact RB2 did. Sure, the setlist is great, and Pro mode brings a new challenge to the game, but the new tour mode is short, the goal system is unbalanced and seems unnecessary, and there's about 8 achievements that require you to download very specific songs to complete. (There's one for playing five Dave Grohl songs, and you cannot use any of them that come with the game(s).) The biggest letdown so far was the keyboard. Out of the 80+ songs for RB4 only about 30 of them actually support the keyboard, and there's been no word of updating old DLC to include keys support. It kills me to see songs like "Don't Stop Believing" and "The Final Countdown" and my $80 keyboard just sitting there collecting dust.
If you like Rock Band 2 then you'll probably like Rock Band 3, but if you're just now getting into RB I can't really recommend this one.
You can't play pro mode (as of yet) on any of the older tracks sadly, with the exception of two Bon Jovi songs, that you have to redownload to be RB3 compatible with pro mode. Pro mode will be featured on all future songs but if you bring in the old songs, you're stuck playing them for now on the toy guitar and I'm not sure if Harmonix has plans to even make them all into pro mode. If they do, I'd imagine it'd be like what they did to Bon Jovi, where you have to buy the song again and then pay the extra $1 for the pro chart.
So I have the Rockband 2 game and instruments and bought like 5 songs. Can I sell the game and instruments or is that disc tied to my psn account or something?
To the top.
Does anyone happen to have an unused Rockband 2 export code? I own the game but I'm having the hardest time finding my book to it(the disc box is empty!). If anyone would be so kind as to le tme have their export code(should be on the back of the book) I'd love to have it. If I find the book im more than willing to pass mine back.
Amazon's doing gold box on the pro guitar in about an hour.
Harmonix/EA were reissuing codes if you had lost your book back when Rockband 3 came out originally. Try contacting them if this option doesn't work and you can't get a code off someone here. It might take a little bit to get going though so be prepared to wait a little if you do try calling them. I know they were able to give me a new export code for Green Day Rockband since the used copy of the game I bought had already been used, but I just called them and explained the situation and about an hour later I got a new code that worked. Then I returned the game lol, but that's another story.
What was the RB2 export key from? All my copy of RB2 came with was the code for the 25 some indie songs.
That code when used on RB2 got the free indy songs that were supposed to be in game at it's release but they didn't have time before the deadline, but if you use the same code for RB3, you're able to move all but like 4/5 songs to your hard drive to play on 3. Then there was a free download added a month ago for all the Harmonix Bands from 2 that didn't get included with the song transfer from 2 (Visions, The Main Drag, etc)
Ah, good to hear. I'm assuming it involves some $$$ like RB1 did at any rate, or did Harmonix have the foresight when they licensed the songs for RB2 to allow future transferal?
I'm slow at getting to RB3, mainly waiting until I see a price-drop, and then nab me a MIDI adapter so I can play with my keyboard on it, which is the main draw for me. On the other hand, I really should get back to RB2 and get my platinum trophy, mainly lacking the endless setlist challenges. ;/
.....also means I have to nab me a copy of RB1 to re-export the songs from it since my old PS3 died.
(I rented it way the fuck back when I bought RB2 just to get the songs off the disc >.>)
For RB3 btw, did they bother making use of the black input for the RB2 drums for the double-kicks?
Uh, I think you had to pay $10 again to transfer which was like...600ish MS points? However the RB1 songs since already on the HD, didn't have to be paid for again as you already have them if you imported to RB2. I don't know about the drums at all, I'm still using my RB1 kit (on it's second kick pedal) though I've considered upgrading to be able to use the pro drums feature.
I know we've gotten away from this in recent months, but here's next weeks DLC:
DLC Week of 3/29 - Jefferson Airplane, Santana, DragonForce, Blood Sweat & Tears!
Hey gang,
It's an interesting pairing of songs this week for sure! The Days of Peace Pack sees 3 legendary classic rock tracks from the late 60's and early 70's, while the singles bring some of the most notoriously difficult songs in music gaming to the RB library. Enjoy!
Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation®3 system (March 29):
Days of Peace Pack 01
• Jefferson Airplane – “Somebody to Love”
• Blood, Sweat & Tears – “Spinning Wheel”
• Santana – “Black Magic Woman” X
Singles
• DragonForce – “Through the Fire and Flames” X
• DragonForce – “Operation Ground and Pound”
(All tracks are original master recordings)
(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system March 30)
I just hope that they toned down Through the Fire and Flames a little from GH3, because I couldn't even get past the intro on hard lol. Needless to say, I'm excited though beyond belief to play these songs.
I would assume that it'll be a good bit easier since there's a keyboard now, and not just a guitar doing some double duty

so this is a pretty serious necro but I think it's ok?
anyway, does anybody still play this shit? I've been back into it lately, but it's a bit tough to find people to play with online these days heh.
I'm on ps3, I play drums on hard (expert beatles drums lol), guitar on expert. Have rb1, 2, 3, lego, beatles. Have a bunch of guitar heroes too, but my GH guitar won't connect these days for some reason. I'm pretty good, I was seriously good at GH3, but haven't played much for a couple years and am mostly just having fun these days.
anyway, psn is Timmaw, hit me up if anybody's down to jam
