Did any of the former oink users here get an invite? No one I know has one either. If possible, could I get an invite, otherwise do you know when they'll be able to open up free registration?

I think this refers to current members not being able to invite anyone to waffles. The OP was wondering about former OiNK members getting invited.. two different things

Ah, in that cast, I heard their IRC was swamped so they stopped giving invitations

The IRC channels they have are overrun, they have around 5-6 different channels for different purposes. They said that if you sent an email in with proof that they are going through them by hand and it's taking a while until they get the new hardware up and running. The traffic to the site was so insane a few nights ago that they were getting DDoS'd. If you sent in proof of prior membership be patient and you will eventually get an invite. If you don't have proof then hope you are really good friends with a current member and just don't know it yet.
