Need a Stack of Nidhogg's scales for Gobbie Bag VII (and VIII?)!
im a tad bored at work.... let the daydreaming commence
SE announcement :
Dancers 2 Hour ability - Mesmerise
Mesmerise - when used the dancer begins a mesmerising dance that captivates its target and prevents it from using any job abilities for x ammount of time.
back to reality....
I think that would end any and all loldnc statements, but its not going to happen is it.
People have learned that DRKs, SAMs, WARs, and etc really ain't that evil on HNMs anymore, and can hit harder than us.Originally Posted by happydude
A lot of it stemmed from people realizing how much of a hate machine NIN/DRK is and that it can hold hate even against top of the line SA+WS.
And some jobs excel at getting worse solo exp per hour than BLU and BLM while being a slightly better party DD than THFs. End-game? Oh yeah, if anyone ever needs Rostrum Pumps or an Optical Hat again, my BST will be right there...being subbed to my WHM. And it's totally awesome for Double Agent too!Originally Posted by Judai
Edit: Don't get me wrong, I really like my BST. Soloing exp on it was enjoyable, if not efficient. But aside from the occasional quest, Xolotol, or using it as a SJ to help me get a job into exp scroll land (20+), it's pretty hard to find anything to do with it.
The problem with this is that on one of the two platforms that really needs more lines (due to lack of Windower), PS2, changing macro sets has a delay that varies with the amount of lag. Depending on the event, it can be pretty nasty. I don't think I'd want to rely on being able to change macro sets in time to perform something urgent, like sleep/cure. There are also timing issues when you want to start an action with one set of gear on and finish it wearing another; depending on what is being cast and how much gear is being swapped, you may just not be fast enough to mash that many buttons.Originally Posted by Delekii
It will give some relief to BRD and COR, because I will probably only use a small subset of spells for any given event. So I can use a few sets of macros in, say, my COR book as a "library", and just swap in the buffs I need for a given event. I'll also have room to make separate sets of macros for COR/WHM and COR/RNG, which will help.
Right now I seriously have THF and fishing macros crammed into one set due to lack of sets, so I'm not horribly displeased at the expansion of macros in this direction. But there are some things more lines can do, especially on a PS2, that more sets just can't.
BRD/BST is hot for Ouryu too. Charming the worms works really well for CC.Originally Posted by Bakthi

Well I couldnt on BRD, their charm last like 2mins.Originally Posted by Rocl
That, and even if your sole responsibility was to charm a worm, you'd be doing it roughly once per every one or two sleep cycles.Originally Posted by Rocl
New jobs are fun. Who cares if we don't need them or they don't overthrow some other job? More than half the jobs in the game could be done away with and you'd still be able to handle anything in the game that can currently be handled.
It's so simple it's pathetic if they haven't thought of it. They still don't have a bloodtank that specializes in damage mitigation. The job that takes the least damage per hit is PLD, but PLD also has cures, flash, cover, etc. There's no job that excels strictly in damage reduction bloodtanking.Honestly, it really is hard to think what another tank job could possibly do uniquely. That is evidently the developer's problem too.
And on top of that I can think of at least two other types of jobs they could make to alleviate the shortage of tanks.
Ha, no, it isn't "so simple it's pathetic", because non-game developers 99% of the time ignore balance and what THEY think would be good, not what actually would be good game wise when making their job/class ideas.
There literally is no way to implement a new tank job that isn't already seen in FFXI:
Damage Mitigation specialist - PLD.
Evasion Tank - Ninja (even though weren't designed to tank.)
"Jack of all trades" Tank - Warrior (which no one wants tanking for exp parties after 40)
So, what's left? Jobs that can tank:
Sam
Mnk
Blu
War
A new "tank job" is almost impossible to make because it would be overpowered if it has to do things that isn't already found, which would make them:
Overpowered and Untouchable.
Which is what I assume is the "simple solution".
Did I just witness a debate about how bad end-game will be in an expansion that hasn't even been released yet? By this point before ToAU came out we only knew about Besieged and heard about Assault. We didn't know anything about Salvage, Nyzul Isle, or lolEinherjar.
Six months to a year from now we can worry about how end-game looks. Until then we should be more concerned about the missions/storyline. :D
Agreed. Sometimes I think we get far too pessimistic and bent out of shape regarding speculation.Originally Posted by Septimus

lol, not only has end-game been argued, there has already been calls to nerf Scholar....less than 24 hours after we even knew about it.
Need to make a "Rule 34"-esqe axiom regarding speculation.
I would agree, the PLD does have damage mitigation to a point but it uses healing and MP to get most of its hate. There is no true blood tank (anymore), one that gets hate only through job abilities and has real damage mitigation. A job that can really use VIT or has some kind of damage reduction as a job trait. It would even make for a great sub for PLD, so they wouldn't have to sub NIN. I do think this would be possible but would require very careful balancing.Originally Posted by Kachi
SE just needs to adjust existing jobs to make them more viable tanks. Seigan did wonders for SAM, but it leaves much to be desired for a full-time tank. Perhaps if the endrainga of DNC is sub-level, it might be an option, but other abilities to do damage or generate enmity would be a must if a tanking SAM was to keep up with a SAM/WAR. Perhaps a SAM/WHM with a Scholar using the White Grimoire would be more realistic...still. A high-level Third Eye enhancement or new trait/ability to mitigate or block damage might do the trick, too.
I'm speaking from the SAM perspective because my PLD is level 1, my NIN is 56, and my WAR is 41. If THF had some way to hold attention and evade a bit more, I could see that working, too. Let's hope the dev's come up with some great additions (or listen to some great suggestions!).
let's be honest though...unless WotG really has some drastic changes to the current combat systems, would anybody every really use a true blood tank anymore anyways?
Why have damage mitigation when it's so easy right now to take zero damage...
