Yes, but the TH goes into effect as soon as the THF gets on the hate list by hitting it or voking or w/e so I think THF could hit once and disband and you'd still have TH.

But from testing done by myself and everyone I know, TH from said THF only works if the party they are in kills the monster. If I understand it right, they are saying this:

Greatest TH in the party goes into effect when said THF hits the monster / does some hate action on it, this TH remains (even if the thief dies) for said party until the monster is killed by said party at which point the drops are assigned.

They don't answer anything about the thief leaving the party, or another party killing the monster etc. So I would still go with the thief party needing to kill the monster, based off of all my own personal experience thus far in FFXI. Could be wrong, but I've always seen much better drops when a PT with thief in it kills things.

So, this would literally/basically mean that the reason Thieves were given Enmity gear in the first place is to activate Treasure Hunter trait?

It would also mean that doing anything related to Sneak Attack/Trick Attack, Provoke, or even hitting it to get on the enemy's hate list activates the effect. Therefore, if I'm understanding everything that's been posted here, a Thief would only need Treasure Hunter gear at the initial moment the party or alliance engages the enemy. After the enemy has generated a "hate list" or "enemy list" of party/alliance members at start of the fight, Treasure Hunter trait is in effect until the enemy or party/alliance dies. The Thief can then switch to Attack/TP gear instead of wearing full TH gear the entire time.

From experience, I haven't seen Thief kill improve drops. I've even seen good drops when a mage, other melee, or pet kills the enemy. So, Thief kill doesn't affect drops. But, for Dynamis or Einherjar, it makes it sound that Treasure Hunter trait is shared between alliances/parties just as the Treasure Pool is shared as well. Only one caveat is that only the highest Treasure Hunter trait will be used in effect. How about multiple TH4 Thieves? I would assume that TH is activated regardless of which Thief has TH4 and that the hate or enmity list is shared between all attendees of Einherjar/Dynamis.

Only thing the question didn't answer is the mechanics of drop rates or how it actually works. Or, maybe I'm thinking too much into this. XD

    Two things

First, Iwao is a real person on the development team. He collects actual pieces of weaponry and armor in real life. I changed the title of that section to "Random Facts," as "Hints and Tips" seems to have mislead people and it was a stupid choice of words that I missed double checking because the post was so massive.

Second, aoiljhfliwhrefliajehwr934hirefkjd this Treasure Hunter debate will never end.
As long as the Thief executes any aggressive act towards the enemy that generates hate, Treasure Hunter will be in effect. Stab it, shoot it, voke it, cast a spell on it, whatever. Passively aggroing the monster or linking it is not enough. That's the only caveat. Once the Thief actively puts their self on the hate list, they can seriously uninstall the game and return it to Best Buy and the party will still receive the bonuses from Treasure Hunter. It doesn't matter if the Thief kills it, or the Automaton two parties over in the Alliance kills it.

I think on multiple alliance events for example TH will just be "sticked" to the mob and apply for everyone. I used to believe in THF party kill always, but with what they've given us it just seems as long as you "stick" the TH effect, the mob will reflect it at death, and not depending on which party killed. Also, about "what if other party ends up killing the mob", maybe when the moment a mob goes unclaimed TH traits are reset.

As utterly retarded as this sounds - Treasure Hunter could simply be figured as a "status effect" that is placed on a mob when a THF takes action on it. Once a THF takes action, the mob's loot pool changes.

What's the whole point of adding more macros if it's still 6 lines?

This is probably how it's handled. Which makes me wonder, if a thief in another alliance hits say, uh, Tiamat, and then that linkshell wipes, and another linkshell claims it before it regens -- will they still receive the treasure hunter effect?

Was thinking about that too. Another situation would be something like Fafnir. If a THF's Mug goes off in the flurry of JAs, but doesn't claim, would the alliance that got claim get the effect of TH?

That TH revealed thing is kinda a good thing and bad thing.
The good news is i can take off that gimpy thf knife after 1 hit and put on a REAL weapon.
The bad news is well.... twas hard enough to get to do anything in endgame until feint. now that endgame ls realize ya only need to smack it once and leave you arent going to even get the short moments of glory while you try to sneak in a killshot before the nuke happy blms that you have now. even on a short fight it's going to go something like this depending on your ls.
THF: feint <t>, hit once, disband /kick, watch everyone else fight. rinse and repeat for every pop.
Thf: This is just wonderful. I can experience endgame 1 attack round at a time. By doing this i can experience almost an entire fight's worth of attacking in 6 months. it will be like i fought a single battle vs every HNM in vanadiel at once. This will surely make me love endgame more since if I did something that didnt require vast amounts of afk time I couldnt possibly find this game fun. This is just like those dragons SE says everyone loves so much. The flaills make them so popular! I wanna be popular too!

For people like me who actively pay 9 jobs (blm takes up 2 pallets) and need more room before lving another job.
