    Cell Phone Plans

My currently cell phone plan is ass and involves me paying ahead of time for minutes and they like to screw me by taking a minute for failed calls and other stuff and they all dissapear very fast.

So my question is this: What is a good cell phone plan? I don't use my cell phone very often so I thought something like that would be good but it's pretty shitty. <.<

Go with Verizon. I get good service just about anywhere besides the middle of the desert between Mexico and AZ, plus you can text and call other VZM subscribers for free. I don't think plans are overly expensive, although I'm not sure what a single line plan cost.

Which service provider are you currently using? If you're happy with the reception you're currently getting, you should stick with them and just get the cheapest monthly plan.

I've had 3 different services, and I find that Verizon is the best. I have never had a call dropped on my end in the last 2-3 years with Verizon, and I get a strong signal ....basically everywhere. They also have great customer support. I broke my phone about 5 months ago, drove down to the verizon store, and they gave me a brand new one without even asking me my name; they only asked for my phone number.

Cingular/AT&T and T-mobile were pretty shitty when I used em. Now I'm using Spring, is better than those two and is very decent for the price I pay. A few dropped calls, but never sure which side. And not the greatest reception, but still better than Cing/AT&T in So. Cal. at least.

My GF had Nextel (same as sprint) but says they were pretty shitty.

I've heard many good things from Verizon customers tbh. And I'd probably go with them if my plan with sprint wasn't fucking awesome. Plus my GF uses sprint now so mobile to mobile saves me a ton.

ive got cingular.. and it works out really well cause everyone i know(im in high school.) has cingular, cause thats all thats available here... so we can all call eachother and talk as long as we want and not waste your minutes.. so if your into that kinda thing, thats a big plus.
I never really get dropped calls either.. and have good signal everywhere, ive got no gripes with cingular. lol

other than my phone sucking(fucking 4 megabytes of internal memory), that is.
but then again, cell phones are alot better now about expandable memory. if you swap to cingular, get a blackberry pearl.

Most of the advice posted so far isn't gonna help you that much. It's gonna depend mostly on the area you're in, so ask some local friends what they use and how often they lose calls or get a shitty signal. Verizon has sucked balls everywhere I have been (Southern California and Eastern MA mostly, but driving across the country it sucked the whole way), Cingular or Sprint is pretty much the way to go if you're gonna sign on to a contract, but overall it'll vary by area. Plans for the most part are gonna cost you the same unless you're getting dicked over on dropped calls and other bullshit service gayness.

What exactly do you have and what are you paying for it monthly (like what kind of plan), and like how often in a week are you talking on it?

I don't have a plan, It's like a prepaid thing where I put in money for minutes.

I don't like my provider (TMoble) because I have super piss poor reception in my room and lose alot of my calls. So I would like something else but alot of the alternatives seem fairly expensive.

$39.99 a month would be the cheapest option from both AT&T & Verizon. As to which provider is better in NYC, I have no clue. I'm pretty sure AT&T offers a 15 or 30-day return policy if you're not happy with the service, but you would have to check up on that.

Edit: Looking at the AT&T GoPhone plans, you can get 200 Anytime minutes w/ Rollover for $29.99 a month. Since you said you don't use your cellphone much, you can easily build up a nice chunk of Rollover minutes after a few months. Only downside to going with GoPhone is that the phone selection is pure shit.

    Re: Cell Phone Plans

Yeah AT&T and Virgin Mobile have prepaid plans as well, though those are only cheaper than contracts if you're talking like... an hour or so in a whole week. T-Mobile is complete shit, made a friend of mine switch to something way better cuz he was making tons of calls all the time and paying out the ass. Should like get all your receipts or just think back to how often you had to go in and get more minutes and that would be a pretty solid gauge of how much you're using a month. And definately find out what providers get a good signal in NYC.

Overall sounds like you'd just be good trying out the AT&T prepaid, same concept (prices might vary) but good reception. And yeah, if you sign up for contracts you get 30 days before you cancel it or else they charge you like $150.

AT&T prepaid = $1 a day you use it and 10 cents a minute OR flat 25 cents a minute; has the best coverage
Virgin Mobile prepaid = $7 a month and 10 cents a minute OR flat 18 cents a minute; cheaper
Phones themselves are like $20 if you just want something for calls and texts (the bare minimum), more features are like $30-40 more.

Go to sprint store, play with their phones, get a reps card. Punch their email into this site http://delivery.sprint.com/m/p/sprin...epclanding.asp

Basic plan with bells and whistles, $30 for 500 min.
