Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, In Flames and Amon Amarth are all pretty good.
If you want to go the Cannibal Corpse route:
Devourment
Deranged
Both awesome bands, Devourment is some of the more brutal stuff I've heard.
Where in Chicago is it being held?Originally Posted by Tekki

I went to this tour last night. Make sure you show up in time to see Gojira. Excellent Progressive Death Metal from France. Sadly they only played a short set in Minneapolis =(Originally Posted by Tekki
I haven't been listening to a ton of metal lately, but some all-time favorites include:
Opeth
Devin Townsend (Strapping Young Lad, but I prefer his solo material)
Warmen (Side-project of Janne Wirman, the keyboard player from Children of Bodom)
Meshuggah (surprised they haven't been mentioned yet, they are amazing)
Mastodon
Isis
Between the Buried and Me (their new album, "Colors", is by far their best)
Kamelot (best album: The Black Halo)
Pelican
There are also some great bands which mix progressive rock and metal seamlessly, such as Porcupine Tree and Oceansize, which metal-heads should really give a try.
Don't be knocking Dragonforce. That's some pretty hard metal, there. Among the hardest metal known to man.

In other words, I don't like JFAC.
When I lived in Arizona I had to see JFAC as an opener for the majority of good bands that came to town. Agalloch, Akercocke, Vehemence, Virgin Black and Vital Remains all had JFAC open. Their fans are even worse than they are, they show up and crowd the place with hair gel and faggotry and then leave as soon as JFAC steps offstage.
I almost forgot Lamb Of God.. Ashes of the Wake is so awesome..
