    HDMI to DVI?

So, some of you may recall my plight a little while ago with upscaling DVD players, and not being able to take advantage of the upscaling due to not having HDMI inputs on my TV. (I have a Mitsubishi 55" Wide Screen HDTV Ready TV.) Now, the TV itself supports 420i, 420p and 1080i. Ideally, I'd like to get 1080i picture out of this one of these upscaling DVD players. My question is this:

Would this (http://www.optimization-world.com/details/prodid/8.html) work to alleviate my issues? I just want to hook the thing up to my TV and get the upscaling resolution...

My TV has a DVI input. I'm guessing it -might- work... But, I'm not 100% sure on that. Anyone have any experience with this?

    Re: HDMI to DVI?

720p resoution is likely the native resolution on your TV and would likely look better than 1080i

The Oppo line of dvd players all handle upsampling standard definition DVD's (all dvd's are SD) well.

Although at this point in time you might want to consider picking up a Toshiba A2 HD-DVD player which will upsample as well in addition to allowing you to play HD-DVD's which will happen to be on sale at walmart and other such stores for black friday for about 99$

Using 720p will give most of the resolution benefit but improve fast action sequences and usually look sharper than 1080i on a native 720p display (which anything that is not 1080p but is HD ready is)

That cable should work fine to convert a HDCP signal over HDMI to a DVI input for your TV or vice versa whichever the case may be.

    Re: HDMI to DVI?

That helps a lot, actually. And, yeah, 720p was my first choice, but my TV is retarded and doesn't support 720p, for some reason. 480i/p and 1080i are my only options. >< I wasn't thinking of futureproofing when buying the TV. I just wanted 55" to play my PS2/Gamecube games on. Plus, I was/am poor. But I'm just glad that this little device should suffice with what I need it for. Thanks much.
