    Fishing up Devil Manta

When fishing how hard is it to tell the difference between a Devil Manta on the line and some other Monster? I watch these two fish up just Manta the whole time while my GF fishes up every other mob but those Manta...

Night and day difference from pulling in crabs, very hard to tell manta from pugil for me though. IIRC they actually have the exact same 'hp' >_>

FFXI-App couldn't tell the difference 2 years ago, stopped using it after 2nd char banned though. Maybe fish weight was changed since then or it has more features, don't really know.

Apparently I'm legit as my sig and THE LIST proves, but if I used FFXI-APP ever I'd tell you it can tell them apart.

Don't really feel like arguing over a bot I haven't touched for 2 years, but all it had back then was fish weight detection and both manta and pugil were same weight.

    Re: Fishing up Devil Manta

I asked about it in the random question thread a day or two ago. (Since Angel Skin is 400k on Hades and constantly in the most viewed list on FFXIAH.com.)

I tried for about two hours in Cape Terrigan, and if they are still fishable there I couldn't get one. I tried at the spring in Kuftal Tunnel, and after all the RMT warped inexplicably, I tried fishing them up for an hour. I got plenty of crabs and pugs, but with 13 Fishing skill I caught some monsters that I couldn't get below 90% endurance. I was using a Mithran Rod, I'm not sure if it would be easy with Composite, but I couldn't pull one in for the life of me.

I'm thinking I'll wait until 25 or so skill before I bother going back. Meh, at least I made money on the 5 (of 6) shrimp lures that I made and ended up AH'ing later.

    Re: Fishing up Devil Manta

Like people have said crabs are very easy to pull up. The hardest is tring to figure out the difference between pugils and mantas. We have been down there helping your GF and after they left we decided to stick around. Its very obvious Darksushi is using some sort of tool to help display what he has on line. FFXI-App, from what I have read, isn't just to auto-reel stuff. You can put scripts in there that interacts with the list of Fish IDs and tells you what you have on your hook. Pretty much the safe way not to get caught, but I dunno.

I usually fish 2 pugils and 2 crabs then kill them and i have like 15minutes before manta can be fished up. The ideal setup is Haylcon Rod + Fly Lure. I have pulled mantas before with Composite Rod + Fly Lure.

Advantages of Halcyon over Composite? I've always been able to fish up mantas with composite with 1 fishing skill, so if Halcyon is any better, let me know.

    Re: Fishing up Devil Manta

I am not the expert on fishing rod, but from what I have read, Halcyon rod has less of a chance to break than composite. If you are a high level alchemist, I don't think it should be a problem because you can repair both.

I apologize I can't cite any of the information I have provided, but forgive me, because DOIM (the providers of our internet) has blocked mostly everything that is not boring.

    EDIT:

My apologies, I totally got the rods backwards. Its Composite Rod that is stronger. Here is the site I got the info from:

    http://www.finalfishing.com/Default.aspx

I got confused because both Halcyon Rod and Composite say its a good second to Lu Shangs in terms of durability.

    Re: Fishing up Devil Manta

Ah, no worries. I've never broken a composite fishing in Teriggan or Kuftal, so I guess I don't have to worry about rod strength until I have to fish up actual fish one day.

I think durability wise, they're about the same, but halcyon aims for smaller fishes while composite goes for the bigger ones.

    Re: Fishing up Devil Manta

i wouldnt call my self myself a pro but i fish these up quite abit. My best night was 6 skins in one night^^
I was a happy taru. But u need no fishing skill to pull up mobs. Crabs are too easy so i just let those go. But on pugs its kinda hard to tell the difference, but if u pull up a pug consistantly .. u will know when that manta is on u. Hes alot harder than a pug. I dont take the chance and pull it up anyways.

I pull it up all the time.. the drop rate blows. Spend more time fishing than fightin silly mobs. I take a partner and we do it RMT style. Ill keep fishing and he fights the mobs.
I use mithra or composite. i prefer a composite. A monster wont break ur rod or take ur rig. Only fish and rusty items will break ur shit. After the manta is dead u can start fishing 10 mins after it died. Some people say 15 mins and i used to say 12 mins, but i have pulled it up on first cast plenty of times startin 10 mins after ToD. I dont use a but just really lucky i guess. Tons of RMT down in Kuftal tunnel so i dont go so often and they dont pop in Cape Terr. which sucks. GL to u... its can get addicting. I would stay up late saying " Just one more pop, just one more"..hopin for a damn drop. Wish i kept some..cause now i need them for Heca gear ><

This is why you don't need a partner to do it. He has a repop timer just like any other mob. There is only 1 in the zone. So if you ever see RMT at the fishing hole, and really want to piss them off, keep him alive. I did this once when there were 5-10 RMT there. They just kept fishing up nothing while I kept the Mantra claimed. After about an hour (and only 2 Cave Chavex... those pissed me off that night), I had to log so I killed it (no drop).

    Re: Fishing up Devil Manta

For people with no fishing skill, it can be bit more difficult to tell between a Pugil & a Manta. Manta's HP usually drains just a bit slower then Pugils. I personally have a Lu Shang and 90+ fishing and i can tell if I have a Manta the second i pull it up. Heh. As for the drop rate, it's random. I've gone 0/10 before and 3/6 before. Oh the good old days of Cape Terrigan.

I don't wanna give up all the hints to getting skins, but here is one. Once a Manta is killed, set your clock for 12 min. After 12min window opens again. :D

    Re: Fishing up Devil Manta

Are the devil manta in Terrigan linked to the devil manta in Kuftal?

I've been fishing in terrigan for over an hour with no competition, and not a single devil manta.

I'd like to see the mob itself, even if it doesn't drop anything for me.

Hahaha I remember that night was insane! first 2 Drops were with TH2, the last 4 were with 0 TH... But yeah we had little competition to no competition(atleast towards the end).

If you notice, the RMTs love to fish up more mobs then they can hold claim. I love to go down there as DRG and just get claim on one of their mobs and then just Super Jump, resetting my hate but at the same time keeping claim... Bye Bye RMTs...
