    USA Gas Prices

They also have a link to Canda's Gas prices on that site too. Most metro areas have a "xxxcityxxxgasprices.com" website, I use the site every time I'm at a 1/4 tank to try and get the best price of the stations that are on my way home from my work.

If my calculations are correct, prices in the UK are roughly $8 USD for a US gallon.

    Feel better yet guys?

That's why I never bothered to learn how to drive. I've lived in London all my life and it's a pretty compact city with good public transport, extensive underground train network etc.

I'd say that holds true for most of the country.

Thank god I live in NYC. I still never bothered to learn how to drive because who needs to?

About how much USD is the average that people make there a year? If it's around what ours is, I wouldn't have learned how to drive there either lol.

That pretty much seems to be the kicker. If you're in a big city with decent public transportation, you can get away without driving. Most of Europe seems to be in that situation. Everything is a -lot- closer together in Europe, so even if you did have to drive, it'd probably end up not being that far most of the time. If we could get regular train schedules between cities and good public transportation between cities and even inside most cities, ~$8/gallon probably wouldn't be horribly bad...

Then again, ~$3/gallon sucks... And aren't oil companies still getting record profits? Bleh...

Average wage nationally is $54k USD roughly and minimum wage is around $11/hr for over 22's and $9/hr for 18-21.

Obviously those figures vary drastically depending on the exchange rate, I've given them at a rough rate of £1 = $2

I'm not exactly sure what ours is anymore, but that seems pretty close. Gas prices being almost triple of ours sucks really bad.

Europe also has a lot more variety in diesel powered cars that get ridiculous MPG numbers, and are also very emission friendly these days. Wish they'd bring more euro diesel models over to the states, but then again, US diesel is not that great quality wise.

Anyways, this recession is similar to the one the US experienced in 1987, so hopefully we'll pull out of it in the same manner. Although yeah, the recent high inflation sucks, its just a correction that is necessary. Devalued dollar leads to improvement in our international trade (import/export wise anyways), which eventually leads to stimulating the economy out of the recession....at least I hope that's what will happen.

So you have figured out the grand scheme then. Devalue the American dollar to the point where the trade imbalance tilts to our favor for two reasons:

First, no one in the USA will be able to afford to buy anything from other countries.
Second, stuff made here will be so cheap that everyone in other countries will flock to buy it.

Oh wait. Nothing is made here anymore... >_>

True on the diesel, my dad's last car was running over 70 mpg on average. From a passenger's perspective, it was no different to a petrol model.

The recession won't exist anymore once we elect Ron Paul into office and we get back on the gold standard 8)

Actually in most industrialized countries they pay those "higher" rates. They seem higher because they are paying the “true" costs associated with production and consumption of the fuel.

Who needs to drive in LA when you have LADOT anyways? Commuter xpress ftw ;x

    Actually, no.

Basically 66% goes to the government in two forms of tax, Duty and VAT.
