plus im a tech so it doesnt matter to me... after a year i can most likely find the parts online anyways and replace them myself if something massive happens, im not too worried about it at all, plus since im taking their software off they'd start shit like "since you're using XP, instead of vista thats the problem" in their little indian accents, so complete care can shove off

17 inch is a big NO for me. It is way too big and way too heavy. unless you never plan on bringing it around and be your desktop.

Gimmy word on how the battery life is after you receive it.

I just really can't see a laptop with a 1080p display lasting long, hell, my 15" MacBook Pro barely lasts one hour playing Team Fortress2 from a full charge.


Regarding Laptop2Go, be sure to have system restore handy, took me a few BSODs,freeze-ups, and safe-mode bootups before I found a driver that worked.

Unfortunately, I am also a tech... and I know for a fact Complete Care has bailed out my ass repeatedly (Hi2u cat knocking system off my desk and Dad stepping on my system)

Also, dunno where you find your parts, but for the price... I saved more with the warranty than not. (system had a tendency to overheat and crisp motherboards. Finally melted down.)

Protip: You don't have to say what operating system you are using when you call in. Or you can be a wise-ass and dual/tri-boot. (thinking about doing a linux/XP/Vista system down the road)
As far as the technician issue, that's why you buy from Student/Government or Business only. Consumer accounts get shit on repeatedly.

I reasoned it out this way: I spent about 1500 for my system and about 300 for a warranty (3yr cc+ onsite) which was heavily rebated, so I basically got the warranty for free. The older model systems tend to have the best rebates/discounts and similar features to the recent models. 8)

Just a note, but I'd reccomend waiting until Intel's Penryn spec comes out before buying a computer with an Intel chip in it. Not because Intel is bad, but because older processor prices are gonna go down nicely, so you will more than likely get more bang for your buck. I remember Penryn coming out in January off the top of my head, so if you can hold out til then, wait and re-access once its out. May be able to afford a quad core in there even.

ordered on friday, the one i posted about (2.2ghz core2duo, etc) should be here first week in dec. im hoping... i had to skimp on the DVD burner and only a 120GB harddrive (upgrading in the future so it dont really matter anyway)

Hmm, just a heads-up... if it gets shipped out via UPS... you're golden. Fed-Ex has had a nasty tendency in the past to say they were there, but never show up to deliver.

note i have the 9cell battery but it looks to be lasting 2.5 - 3 hours on battery... but thats just doing basis surfing, watching videos etc

How about straight-on gaming?

I'm finding my MacBook Pro eating about 1% of my battery per minute playing FFXI windowed @ 1440x900 with full volume, brightness, WiFi enabled (as well as BlueTooth), and battery consevation turned off on my video card.
(god forbid I play games with that thing turned on, it rapes the frame-rate in everything)

plus i have vista+nvidia and FFXI likes to have FPS PMS

Least you got a laptop that can actually run Vista at full power.....I've still no idea why the hell some manufacturers bother shipping laptops with onboard vid cards with that piece of crap OS in the no-eyecandy edition.

Should grab me a copy to tri-boot Vista on my MacBook someday, see how it compares in the eye-candy deparment against Leopard....

lol i dont use aero... my lowest rating (the 4.5) is aero performance which i dont give a crap about since i dont use it it doesnt really matter to me... i see no need for aero and dont care at all about it lol
