how do you play? controlpad or keyboard?

I made it as close to wow control as possible, but the mouse look is still way fucked. Are you guys all playing with keyboard or using a controlpad? I was thinking about buying the recommanded logitech controller. Just curious what everyone else is using.

So used to move with wasd and use the mouse for full view rotate/scan etc like in wow...but mouselook in ffxi is messedup it has an acceleration or something not sure how to describe it but never give precise control like in other games.

I use Num Pad to move, and macro out the whole keyboard with windower, and honestly I can't imagine going back. I started out on PS2 but I got sick of moving my hands back and forth from controller to keyboard, why juggle two control devices when I can just use one?

Ditch the mouse, and ditch trying to make FFXI play like WoW. The control schemes are fundamentally different, it's really difficult to use the mouse in FFXI for any kind of precise camera or character movement.

Mouse/keyboard, though I do almost all my movement related stuff with mouse. Can't really dig the whole keyboard-only for moving around, since it feels like a huge clunky controller. Like above poster, I also find camera precision much easier on mouse then the arrowpad.

how do you control the camera movement using a mouse in a pricise fashion? is there a secret setting somewhere that needs to be changed?

For the hotkey macros, why does it force you to use the ctrl or alt version, i just want the normal hotkeys by pressing 12345.. etc without holding down the alt/ctrl. Cant seem to set it.

Logitech controller for the most part, keyboard only to talk and hit macros. :D Makes playing WHM really quick and precise for me. I don't have much experience with keyboard play, but the controller/keyboard setup makes things like simultaneously running my character (or scrolling through the alliance) and selecting macros really comfortable, whereas doing both on keyboard would feel awkward (to me at least). Controller is also really nice for camera precision, one analog controlling character movement and the other controlling camera movement.

Cept I use /wave <st> when dead so I don't have to use the mouse D:

You can use Shift+Arrow keys to move the camera when you're dead.

Also when you die and want to see the mob's HP still, type "/ta <st>".


Anyway as for the topic, I use all 3 situationally.

Controller is 95% of what I use for all situations and have no problems with, when I'm feeling lazy (like I just woke up and am checking AH) i'll use the numpad to move around, and if i'm trying to get a really precise screenshot, i'll use the mouse to position the camera in pinpoint precision.

in ff, 100% keyboard, i don't use the mouse for a single thing. that includes menu scrolling, moving, looking, etc. don't have a gamepad or whatever either.

I use the mouse a lot coupled with the keyboard. Never owned a controller. By the way if you do, can you scroll through alliance members?
