    Re: job interview clothing question

you can buy a pair of black slacks at walmart for like 10 bucks, can't assume you have a good relationship with family or friends but jesus just ask for a few bucks and say you'll pay them back after your first paycheck.

dont' assume underdressing is ok for a particular environment. Look your best, not what you think is the best for their workplace.

I assume multiple people would be applying. all other things considered equal, your appearance could be the difference between you, or someone else more presentable getting the job.

    Re: job interview clothing question

For my real interviews I've always worn a button shirt (White or Blue) and tie with black slacks. I've gotten all 3 of my jobs on first interview after college. Dunno if it actually helps or not, but in the slightest chance that it does why would I be stupid enough to let something that small get in my way.

If you are serious about getting the job then definitely dont wear denim. Borrow money if you have to. Think of the new clothes as an investment. Dont kid yourself into thinking your awesome resume or interviewing skills are going to set you apart. Especially if you are an external candidate.

Another tip for you is to rehearse your answers many times before the interview so that they flow out during the interview and you're not saying "um..." every other word. Get a list of common interview questions off the net and write down your answers. Then spend hours memorizing them.

You don't need pants for an interview, as Will Smith has shown us. Just make sure you have a really nice shirt.

Because a white oxford with cuffed sleeves, tie, sweater vest, dark pants, and black boots = douche bag? Sounds like well dressed to me. If anyone is a douche bag it would be you for the comment.

I find it reflects negatively on me to show up at an interview grabbing my own ass. Makes me seem narcissistic.
The photos aren't meant to show you how to posture yourself in an interview. They are points of reference in dressing nicely for an interview. I do recommend you walk into an interview dressed well with good hygiene.

wear what ever looks the best on you, and fits you. doesnt matter what kind of suit you wear, its not going to go well with a mohawk etc. you dont need to wear a suit to look good either. my best advice is pretend like youre going on a date with the hottest woman youve ever met, then dress accordingly. if youre completely uncomfortable in a suit its going to show through and make you look the same as if you wore nice clothes but felt a lot more yourself.

But imo, a job interview isnt about "being yourself," its about being who they want you to be enough to get them to hire you. After you get the job, THATS when you show your true colors. :]

    Re: job interview clothing question

I skipped a lot (most) of the posts on this thread after the first 4-5. Sorry if I am stating what has already been said.

    My thoughts:

    - Don't bother going if all you have is blue jeans.

    - Throw your black jeans away.

    - You can get a nice pair of black pants at the mall for only $120 at a place like Express

    - If you can't afford a suit, just get a pair of black pants, a nice shirt, and a tie. You don't need the coat.

    - At a job interview, a first impression (second you walk in) will almost always determine if you get the job. Overdress to impress; it doesn't matter what the actual dresscode is at the office. If I was taking interviews, and you walked in with black/blue jeans (especially black rofl) I would have already eliminated you from contention despite your answers to any questions.

maybe im dumb, but what's wrong with black jeans? i love my pair of black jeans, went in for an interview yesterday and it went well, had on black jeans, nice shoes, tucked in white oxford shirt and a nice blazer i have from the Gap, he said he'd pass on the writing samples i gave him to his editor and told me to call him next friday.

    They are ugly as shit.
If you want to wear black, get some slacks. As mentioned Express is a great place for moderately priced pants.
They are not in style unless you live in a time warp.
    They look retarded.
Show me a runway model who wears black jeans and I'll show you a Runway Model who will be losing their job that week.
