    ZM4 and scholars

Will all this talk of rewatching old mission CS's before WoTG is out. I have just done that.

Just wanted to put this out there :

in ZM 4 Grav'iton calls herself a Scholar

"Ah i have yet to introduce myself. My name is Garv'iton Berrisacci, a scholar from the lost civilization of Kuluu. However my colleagues often referred to me by the sobriquet, Tonberry. I represent the collective consciousness of what was once a great race of people."

I don't know but this is making my head spin with plot lines.

She IS the TONBERRIES. and she is a "scholar"...
perhaps we discovered how they were transmuted into frogpeople? perhaps something like the story behind the Porrogos?

Too much studying doesn't turn you into a nerd.. just into a murderous frog like gnome =o?

Even if I'm only reading too much into it, i really do hope some extra back-story shall be provided to races which we know VERY little about like the TOnberry, Anticans, Sahagins and Gigas will be revealed.

    Re: ZM4 and scholars

We've already learned the origin of Scholars being very close to the present. The Kuluu *spoiler* were turned to tonberries by the being corrupted by the meltdown or something like that.

    And...

    She IS the TONBERRIES.
"No Kuluu, you are the Tonberries". And then Kuluu was a Beastman.

    Re: ZM4 and scholars

scholar origin is from the 5 race.

Kuluu predates that, it's just scholar on general term.

I mean the fucking crystal warriors aren't all warriors...

From the Spire of Vazhl (CoP, obviously)
Lord Diabolos! Is there any way to break these chains that bind us?

    There is...one way...
Long ago, remnants of the Kuluu came to me and asked me to release them from the chains of Promathia.

    I did as they asked...
However, the result was tragic. The Kuluu lost their original selves...
So, presumably, it was the removal of the Emptiness. Although that seems to have happened to a number of different characters in different ways and none of them turned into Tonberries, so I don't know. Just thought I'd find that text since I remembered seeing it in mission.

I as well don't think Graviton was what they called in the story a "Military Scholar."

I demand SE release more info on the Crystal Warriors outside of "they appeared because of a Zilart legend about killing shit". I want to know why they're so strong, why they're also called the ark angels, and why the taru can fly, yet our taru cannot. Were they made in the same "lab" that produced the enhanced mobs in temenos? I'd also like to know where the elvaan got that bitchin shield, so I can have one for my pld.

    So many questions left unanswered!

It was covered in RoZ. Looking through the video again to see exactly where. From what I'm understanding, they were the first of all of the original races. Their sole purpose was to protect the five mother crystals. They were made directly from the crystal themselves. It's just a theory off of what was said, but my guess is the rest of each of the races aren't as strong because we were transformed later and over time.

Edit: It was the CS after the Antica fight. The Illusory Image says exactly:

"...Just as the Crystal Warriors, your people were too, were born from the great force that dwells deep beneath the surface of Vanadiel...

However, the effect the crystals had on you was not nearly as great as that it had on the Crystal Warriors..."

There is (a lot) more, but thats the part that explains it.

I find it interesting that it would say that, given that the Ark Angels are actually far less evolved than us. What they have in power, they lack in just about everything else. No social graces, the inability to feel (or if they can feel, then outwardly express) other emotions other than "kill!", the inability to pursue other jobs (strange that they actually had jobs -- I'd have pegged them to be more like the mammets, freely switching), ect.

RoZ was pretty limiting in terms of what CSes did compared to now, in terms of flashy lights and loud noises. I'd love to see another CS or chapter involving them now, especially with all of the new tricks the dev teams have when it comes to making CSes.

    Thanks for your info, though.

Well, the Crags that protect the mother crystals are called "Arks". (Such as in the title of Promathia mission 1-2: "Below the Arks". I would guess they are called "angels" because they are supposed to be the protectors of those crystals. That or because it is a play on the term "Archangel".

    Head: Scholar Af1
    Body: Morrigan's Robe (Duh)
    Hands: Morrigan's Cuffs
    Legs: Goliard Legs (gg)

It just looks... deadly un-nerdy, what with the glasses and all.

If they are being that are created directly by the crystal to just protect the crystal, they have no need for free will or emotions, since obviously at that point they'd be prone to corruption and may do things that is not the best interest of protecting the crystal.

However, that brings up a point on how they'd end up doing Eald'narche's bidding in RoZ...I guess you could say him trying to reunite all the crystal back to the original 1 mothercrystal and recreate the realm of the celestial avatars and other gods isn't exactly harmful to the crystal.

Though I'd like to believe that the Crystal Warriors were created by Altana to prevent such catastrophe from happening to begin with...

Looking at this from a sociological point of view it's possible that the crystal warriors are how they are because of their lack of socialization with a society. Thus they live knowing only the basic instincts flee and fight and there some other one. However this is trying to connect real life with FF and that never turns out well. Odds are its just magic

    Re: ZM4 and scholars

As i understand the main storyline, the will of the crystal is not necessarily the will of Altana. The crystal in its original state created the gods and some sort of realm where they lived in. When Altana decided that she didn't want Promathia to die, she srewed it all up, split the crystal, creating an "incomplete world" in the process.
