The south end of East Ronfaure. It is actually behind the wall that blocks off the zone to KRT. The only way to see it now is to POS hack behind the wall.

Also, the dat pictures that are posted are from "Kazaam". Yes, I know Kazaam wasn't until RotZ and the train pictures are from the original release. I believe the way it was translated was "A fourth city, unaccessable by any other route." The plan was that the only way to get there was a train from Jeuno, but they had not implemented it yet. That is why I associate it with Kazaam. When they announced that they were going to use airships instead of trains, it was never brought up again, so...

It was discussed back before the NA version was ever released and I don't remember where my translations are so... It was around the same time that RDM got "Heavy" (gravity), but was not on POL. From some interview with a JP magazine.

While I'd like to see trains in the game, it both doesn't make sense nor gel with the style of FFXI. There really is nothing medieval fantasy about trains, or magical fantasy to be honest, the way it is presented here. At least Airships are.
The trains also aren't upside down actually. This kind of train-system with the tracks on the top is called suspension railway. The head of the train does seem rather misleading tho.
It's to clear the tracks of birds nests, bats, and monkeys as it goes along.

As for trains being fantasy, they have been in Final Fantasy 6, 7, 8, and 9, at least.
To be fair, 6 is considered steampunk (I think), 7 and 8 are probably the most futuristic/modern to date (maybe along with 12). 9 I'll give you, but they didn't really look like trains IIRC. I suppose a 9-style train could fit in Vana'diel.

Steam Punk? Why not just early industrial revolution?

I don't know if I'd really consider FF6 steampunk since that implies futuristic or fantastic machines that look like they could have been built in the 1800s. I'd guess Castle Figaro and the airships would fit that category, but the phantom train and all the machinery in Narshe seem appropriate for the style and period.

I think the correct term for FF6 would be Magic-punk.

The Depot is where they drop off the ore to be refined. ;/

FFXI's level of technology is somewhat hard to nail down when you consider the Zilartan influences. Technology for locomotives might exist, but Zilart brought airships to the forefront, so people didn't bother after that. Also, steamboats exist, so that suggests the most basic of train designs could exist, just not something badass like that one. Further, you have to remember that the nation to the West seems to be significantly more scientifically advanced than the middle lands, so they could take liberties there.

If it was to ever be in Bastok, I would think it would be the area with the Galka that won't let you past. (You can go past it in Dynamis)

Might explain why that has always been there /shrug.

still kinda OT but i think FF6 counts as Industrial Revolution era.. and at most only borders on steampunk with magic.
    7 is clearly cyberpunk
8 seems more futuristic than being cyberpunk in any way because its generally very realistic save for Esthar.
9 is classic FF fantasy style, which I suppose is somewhat high mythic fantasy.. or perhaps 'final fantasy' can qualify itself its own genre considering there are at least 12 entries in the series now. FF9 is one of the FFs whose setting is very close to FFXI, so the trains in FF9 would at least look in place in FFXI. The old box type. I didn't mean wooden engine, i meant wooden train cars.

Thats where the Talekeeper lives, if Im not wrong, which is why they restrict you. Its explained when you do Bastok missions, but I forgot already.. that area is mostly houses..
The Depot place could actually work because its elevated, you have space for a track..

Re: Train in Gustaberg in WoTG?

would be pretty cool if they introduced this as the reward for 'crystal war revisited', though i seriously, seriously doubt it. i think it would be a more entertaining ride than the airships, though, especially if you were able to zone through each area and watch people riding chocobos or fighing mobs out through the windows of the train. would be neat to party by the tracks and have the train rush overhead as you're fighting. you could even go under water in a cerment 'chunnel' to connect windy to the other two cities and see the deep sea through magic-enhanced porthole windows or something (kinda like in the undersea ruins).

i think the train design itself fits into the world just fine too. story-wise, Cid probably developed it using bastokian materials, most notably mythril and darksteel. i think mythril and darksteel plate armor is designed in a similar fashion to the look of the train. i dont really understand the reasoning behind people saying a train couldnt fit into this world while flying helicopter boats are totally acceptable. if anything, i feel like it's the other way around.

    SPOILERS

That spot you can't pass you can in Dynamis. There's a door with a little recess on both sides of it, crates/barrels on each side. Probably the Talekeeper's residence yes; because that's where the Child-Supposed-Talekeeper is kept during the mission where you prove he's a fake.

But, were that the case (tiny spoiler response) why doesn't the current Talekeeper live there?

Because it was already occupied by the fake Talekeeper?

Nope. The fake got kicked out before the real one revealed himself.
