    Ingame Gamma settings

    Sorry that I'm something of a noob when it comes to these things, but I just had a question about how to set ingame brightness and colors when not using windower, and what values I should set them to. When I use windower, whatever it automatically sets things to is perfect and everything looks great, but when windower breaks, or in the event that I switch to SE's Windower when they release it, I find the default values too bright, and the colors too bleachy, and it's really distracting to me. I'll include here 2 images, although I can't find one of my own without windower, so I stole one from the DORPs thread (apologies to Reznap) that is similar to what my game looks like without windower. I hope it's a good enough comparison, since both are in salvage, having the same ingame menus open, and using the same menu background style.

    Anyhow, this is what I want my game to always look like:

    These are my windower settings:
    Code:
    //Set game variables
    game_forceambientlight 0
    game_ambientlight 255 120 120 120
    game_gamma 50
    game_allowsetcursorpos 1
    And this is similar to what mine looks like without windower, it's most noticable if you look at the difference in the menus:

    Is there somewhere in the registry or something I can go to make it so my game always looks as it does in the first image?

    Start > Run > RegEdit > Browse to FFXI Folder
    Edit String 28.
    Gamma Base: 0x3f800000 = 1.0, 0 = 0.0, 0xbf800000 = -1.0

    I think you misunderstand. I like the way my game looks with windower at game_gamma 50. It's the other way around, I wanted my game darker and less bleachy when I'm not using windower and just didn't understand how to adjust that until Koga replied. I still kinda don't understand what I'm supposed to be changing in the registry but it's just because I think I need to read some basic stuff to get an understanding of how the registry works.

    Ingame Menu -> Config -> Something (top option I believe?)-> Gamma Correction.

    3 sliders for it, red green blue. Move all 3 equally to brighten/darken the graphics.

    On another note, bump the resolution up, I find the game's aesthetics are portrayed differently at higher resolutions due to its retarded rendering system.
    (For instance, Hux'zoi is fucking bright with green at 2048x2048 bg render vs my default 1024x1024 where it's more mild)
