Proposal:
Currently players only lose TP when they change equipment on the Main, Sub or Ranged slot. The author proposes that players also lose TP when they change equipment on the Head, Body, Hands, Legs and Feet slot. Players do not have to lose TP when switching equipment on the 'Accessory' slots (ears, fingers, waist, back and neck).
Reasons:
- Elitism
There is a general consensus that the 'accepted' way to play the game for players playing melee jobs is to use two different sets equipment: one for regular attacks, another one for Weapon Skill attacks. These players are expected to switch equipment quickly when they acquire 100% TP and do a Weapon Skill, then switch back to the original equipment afterwards. Both sets of equipment are usually expected to be expensive pieces costing more than 100,000 a piece.
Casual players sometimes feel pressured to follow the 'guidelines' laid out by elitists and cause them to buy the equipment that these elitists deem 'necessary'. It's hard enough for casual players to gather enough money to purchase one set of equipment but requiring them to purchase two sets of equipment could deter casual players from playing the game.
- Realism
While the author realizes that this is a video game, realism is a very important part of Final Fantasy XI. The ship/airship schedules, rent-a-moghouse, weather effects are some example of the adherence of the game to realism. Switching armors in the middle of a fight, however, is not realistic. While there are some unrealistic aspects in this video game, this is just 'too unrealistic'.
Imagine in a real life battle where warriors and knights are dueling each other. How realistic is it for them to change their body and leg armor whenever they want to launch a powerful strike, and to change again afterwards? They do not have time to do that. Changing earrings, rings, belts, necklaces and capes are still realistic enough and can be done by people with fast hands.
It is with such humility and loyalty to the game that this author presents this proposal to the developers of Final Fantasy XI. The author wishes that the developers consider this proposal and take the appropriate action.
