It's not that reskinning models is a bad thing, it's just when they are lazy about it. Yigit Gomlek is a reskinned Sha'ir Manteel, but it doesn't look like a clone. On the other hand, Shadow Coat and looks like they took an Errant Houppelande and applied the burn tool in Photoshop.
What is worse is when they don't put any effort into the looks or the stats of an item... >_>
omg that just totally freaked me out... Put on ma Manteel, then ma Gomlek and I was like "WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!?"Originally Posted by Septimus
i'd rather have varied colors of the same mob than new gear models/skins. imagine different spots and shades on the same family of rabbit in the same area, so cute! :DD
if you dont like your gear, change to taru. nobody ever complained that tarus werent cute in everything :D
!!! That would be wonderful! We could travel back in time, and tell her to teach her daughter how to dress herself! That would make the entire RoZ storyline much more palatable.Originally Posted by Septimus

The reason they don't make entirely new models is because it takes too long time to do. Recoloring is much easier, but yeah, Shadow Coat might have been going a bit too far... or not far enough, depends on how you look at it.
I would expect to see the expansions signature gear in... the actual expansion update. This is just a prepatory update of no real consequence ffs.
Yeah, I totally agree. Even if they want to use Errant they could toss on a few bangles or something. Shadow gear looks like Errant on -20 Gamma. I can kind of understand if there was some reason for us to believe that this is Mahatma +1, but there is no explanation at all.Originally Posted by Septimus
Most "unique" armor are just usually occasionally new headpieces, like a turban or spiked helm(or many AF heads). Aside from that, other unique pieces are just mix and match of the classic breastplate, leather, robe, aketon, etc.
That said, most of the new armor looks pretty fresh and new. A harness is going to look like a harness not much how much you change it.
Gah. Used the updated dats in this thread for the new content but some NPCs aren't listed. Anyone remember which .dat Alexander is hiding in?
Agreed. Mobs should have more variety in coloring, size, markings, etc.Originally Posted by Nirokun!

I'd walk around in rags if the stats were good.

I don't buy the "PS2 limitations" thing exactly. In my opinion, its "game engine limitations." They boxed themselves in with the engine they have. Play this game on a PS2 next to even a mediocre PC. The only difference is the grainy-ness of the graphics. However, models load just as fast (slow) on both. The game engine stinks. The game developed for PS2 (original JP release) and they ported it over to PC the lazy way. They could have done so much more.
However, with that said - I think FFXI is only multi-platform MMO. So, to their credit (and defense), if they ran a different engine for all the platforms, they would need a much larger development team or would need even more time to release new content.
So is it PS2 limitations? Sort of. Its mainly that they didn't make their game engine robust enough to be able to easily evolve with the times.
While it would be nice to have more inventory space and such exclusive only to PC users, the PS2 population might argue against it.Originally Posted by loial
