    Sentimental Songs/Albums from your life

Is there a particular song or album that when you listen to it, reminds you of exactly how you felt the day you were listening to it?

Obviously I'd assume wedding songs would for the majority of married folk, but what else?

Do you mind giving your story? Why is that song or album the soundtrack of that time of your life?

For me, it's an odd one. It's Staind's Dysfunction album. I listened to it when I was dating my first girlfriend. It bring me back every single time I hear it. When I hear it, I remember even how cold my sisters firebird was (which I stole on a permit to go pick her up one night we fought) during the december month. I can remember the dark, wet road from the melted snow under tires, that weird feeling with snowflakes starting to fall -- but eerily warm enough air to wear a tshirt. I only remember that feeling when I hear those songs.

    I felt like asking.

    Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm

I was listening to it when my mother came downstairs crying because she had just found out my grandmother had just passed away.

Thats a beautiful song. Do you still feel overwhelmed when you hear it?

yeah, and in fact it kind of ruined the song for me because I'd rather not listen to it because of that; I'd probably end up breaking down and very drunk shortly after.

Men at Work - Forgot name ._.
    Madonna - Immaculate Collection.
    Scorpions - Platinum Hits.
    Mana - Escenciales.
Van Halen - The Best of Van Halen.
Super Castlevania IV - OST >.>
    Chrono Trigger - OST
    Megaman X - OST

Those all remind me of my childhood. It's like a trip.

Edit: Just realized, all those are kinda happy, probably not what you were asking for

Doesnt have to be sad, it can be anything.

Im more interested in the story behind the songs than the songs themselves.

    STAIRWAY \:D/

Seriously? Haitian Fight Song by Charles Mingus. Whole song has a profound effect on me, for reasons which I don't feel like sharing.

    Fastball - The Way
The New Radicals - You Only Get What You Give

Both of these songs always remind me of happy times in the 90s. Not even a particular time, but if I'm ever driving down the road (these are great road tunes, especially the second one) and I hear either of them it always gives me a big smile and that 'it's good to be alive' feeling.

There's a few other songs like this, I need to think of which ones and make an awesome mix tape...

madonna - this used to be my playground

makes me depressed to all hell. I lived baseball every day of my life from the time i could stand and hold a bat/ball til my freshmen year when i got hurt, and in one single throw my whole life basically ended (at the time it was my life).

makes me depressed as hell because i'll never be the same as I was then.

also one of those old enya CD's, was playing furing my dad's funeral/wake. Can't hear one of her songs without getting all depressed.

Both of those events happened within about 3-4 weeks of each other which just add's to it. That's basically what vaulted me into needing something to fill the void etc.. and opened the door for ffxi to consume me for as many years as it did til i escaped and straightened myself out.

Theme from the movie "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" titled "Forbidden Colours" by Ryuichi Sakamoto (the AMV is irrelevant, it's just there because it's easy to link to youtube stuff)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxQE9N1Ppck
The song always reminds me of the holidays up in the Sierra Nevada mountains at my grandparent's house, since this is where I saw the movie.

    And for something completely different:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftwBrUEVlcI
Lol... my early teen days were mostly spent in a '69 AMC Ambassador http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:69Ambassador3a.jpg blasting Testament (linked above) and other thrash metal bands (like when Metallica was actually thrash instead of the bullshit that came starting with the Black album.) It was my friend's car, and a group of us would mostly spend the time doing all sorts of illegal activities that I won't mention, but there was almost always Testament in the rotation of the tape deck at some point.

And one of my fondest memories was when an ex-ex-ex-ex... I forget how many ex but... girlfriend was cool enough to rent a limo for my birthday and invited a close knit group of friends (unrelated to the metal crowd obviously). We went to SF to one of the clubs out there that played alternative/new wave stuff, got hammered, and was blasting Depeche Mode on the speakers of the limo, singing along loudly to this song... it was a blast.

The whole White Pony album reminds me of that summer when it was released. Dunno why, nothing stands out in my mind as to what made it so good, but yeah.

CD's that I can't listen to anymore: Counting Crows' Recovering the Satellites and August and Everything After

Closing time-semisonic , when I worked at a Ponderosa steak house, for some reason that song would always play when we closed and where cleaning up. Had sooo much fun there and it being my first job at the age of 17. I still keep in touch with some of people I worked with 10 years later

and pretty much anytime I listen to Portishead. I bought Dummy waaaay back when I was a youngen before the second album came out. So pretty much listening to it reminds me of my youth. New Portishead album coming out sometime next year after a 10 year break

Basically any old rock makes me happy, reminds me of when I was 10, my dad would come pick me up to take me to his house on Friday nights (2 hour drive). Friday nights was the time when they played like really good old songs non stop for about 3hours. That was really the only time I spent with him, in the truck listening to those songs just talking. Once I got to his house I usually played games in my room, and I regret every bit of it now. I haven't seen him for almost 3 years because of a fight.

He wasn't rich, but he made stuff fun. Man, now I want to talk to him... 2:40am though

"Konstantine" by Something Corporate. It's the only song I've ever heard of theirs and there's just something about that ~10 minutes of piano that tugs at my heart strings. I remember exactly where I was when I first heard it: it was about 6 years ago when I was in grade 10 watching our school talent show. I was a drama student all through junior high/high school, and in drama I met these two girls: Jolynn and Andy. Over time, I became emotionally attached to them, but not in a sexual way. More of a... I care for you a LOT, nothing sexual AT ALL. Anyways, in the talent show, to my surprise, both Jolynn and Andy performed a duet of this very song. It was so beautiful and amazing... I would give anything for a recording of the performance. I still rememebr where I was sitting and the expression on my face when I was watching.

To this day I tie everything that's important to me to that song, despite said events being generally unrelated. Listening to this song does more for me than watching old videos/looking at photos/anything. It's that strong.

    Gary Numan - Exile.

I was seventeen and in the backseat with my boyfriend at the time. Was mouthing off to my friend who was driving, and he blind-grabbed a cassette from the frontseat and whipped back at me. I demanded he play it. The first three tracks had be recorded over with Tool, but I heard "Dark" and knew this was my album.

Finally found the cd and it never left my player for about a year and a half.

Exile probably no one but me likes, but I can highly recommend his album "Jagged" -- scary, beautiful, NIN-esque music from the guy who wrote "Cars" and "Down in the Park".
