it falls under the umbrella of drug abuse, which is being investigated as a social health issue. Chris Benoit, illegal pharmaceutical distributions in Florida, etc, etc. it's not as simple as "some guy cheated and broke a sports record, let's go get him".Originally Posted by Xavier

I wonder how much coverage ESPN will get out of this.
yea quite coincidental that when the grand jury ends, anderson was released since his only issue was not testifying to the grand jury. he kinda had to be let out since there was no longer any grand jury to testify tooOriginally Posted by Tyche

even before 2002 (the year that PED's really took off in professional baseball), bonds was undoubtably going to the HOF as one of the greatest players ever
this is a tough subject to discuss without people getting hot and bothered by it (and there are those type of people on both sides of the fence)
as a person, bonds is an absolute douchebag, and he was that way before he started taking enhancers. look back when he was with pittsburgh, leyland had stated on numerous occasions that he and bonds were involved in a plethora of altercations (and leyland is one of the nicest most respected managers the game has ever seen)
as a player, though, bonds is an absolute powerhouse, before and after the PED's, and I think he's definitely the scape goat for the Steroid/HGH generation of players, mostly due in part to the fact that everyone knows he lied under oath, but more importantly he's a dick to the press and everyone that isn't family, and for that everyone hates him and wants him to fail
it's a shame that out of the hundreds, maybe thousands of professional baseball players that have used PED's, corked their bats, physically altered baseballs, used unsportsmanlike conduct on the field, that barry bonds is the one that will be given a face to all of the aforementioned shortcomings. Why? I think it's because people dislike the image he's given himself, and how he handles interviews with reporters and the press.
did bonds use PED's? well, duh. but so did many other players, many of whom are your favorites and mine, on our favorite teams
the only difference is that bonds was the best athlete of them all and proved this by breaking records, and because of how great a player he was all of the focus will be on him, and not the many other cheaters the game has seen (Sheffield, Giambi, Anderson, Sosa, McGwire, and more recent discoveries like Jose Guillen, etc.)
LOL Deejay, why don't you just come right out and say it: "They're going after him because he's black." :D
Between this and the Duck Season thread I'm beginning to think you're the Al Sharpton of this board.
