    Yep

The main rule, don't flip out in an airport and do stupid shit. The world is so fucked up right now, and then stuff like this happens and people go crazy. Even if he was being held there, which they didnt say why, you cant just go crazy, especially in an airport. Kinda like when I was watching Ultimate Fighter the other week and that retard "War Machine" wondered why he almost got arrested for walking through the airport with a belt designed to look like a ammo chain of .50 caliber bullets. Wtf get real.

Start arming cops with tranquilizer guns. Then when someone goes batshit crazy all it takes is a nice calming dose of nite-nite juice to bring the situation back under control.

Anything can be a dangerous weapon in the hands of the right person. How did they know he wasn't a ninja, and couldn't have used it to kill them all in two seconds?

Well, ok, so this isn't Hollywood... but overall, I don't see why people are against tasers. The point of a taser is that it is non-lethal force that you can freely apply without damaging the person you are subduing. It's much better than beating someone with a club or shooting them.

Now, somehow, this guy actually died from it, but that's not really the norm. Taserings have a much much less mortality rate compared to shootings or clubbings. Imagine discussing the safety of flying versus driving in the wake of a plane crash. It'd sound odd arguing that planes are safe right after one crashed, but it's still the safest method of travel. Same here... despite this guy dying, being tasered is still much safer and better than being shot or clubbed. At least, if I was throwing furniture around an airport and needed cops to come in and subdue me, I'd rather be tasered than shot or clubbed.

I don't think it was the taser that killed him, more than likely it was the knee on the neck from that retarded cop. Probably cut off his air supply.

    Re: Vancouver Airport Tasering

The taser caused him to go into cardiac arrest and the reason he had been there for 10 hours is because his mother told him to wait for her by the baggage carousels. Unfortunately those were behind security doors so his mother wasn't allowed to go there. So he sat there for 10 hours while his mother tried to get a message to him via airport employees. Unfortunately they didn't bother looking for the guy and just told her after a couple of hours of her harrassing them that he never arrived. So he sat there waiting and waiting and waiting until he got so frusterated he threw a portable computer table at a wall. Then he got tazered.

After waiting 10 hours, I would have done the same thing. Except for the throwing a table part. I'd have thrown my cell phone, instead, since I'd apparently never use it.

It was just a tazer. It's not like they shot him. Although the end result might have been the same, they still used much less force than had they gone overboard and actually shot at him.
There's a big media flap about this incident in Canada right now. I was listening to a lawyer who represented a man who was killed in 2005 by the Vancouver Police Department by tazering on the news this morning. He contends that tazers, because they are a non-lethal weapon, cause police officers to use them in situations where they would never even consider using deadly force.

Now the crazy thing of this is that the VPD does not have an independent or external force for doing internal investigations. Yes, that's right, the police investigate themselves. I'm pretty sure nothing much is going to come from this other than the cops who subdued this guy being quietly re-assigned somewhere else in the force.

Soon enough, police wont be able to chase someone in a car cause it might lead to accident. Taser can be deadly, but risk is still small

Not sure if you're referring to the VPD incident but the RCMP are the ones who killed the guy in the airport and while they are doing an investigation on themselves (which will probably end up with the results you mentioned) there are 3 other investigations going on. One by an RCMP watch dog group, one by the coroner's office and one by the airport authority itself.

The RCMP and airport investigations are jokes but the Coroner's office investigation might be interesting. Also the solicitor general has mentioned that there will be an investigation into the airport employees conduct as well as the RCMP.

As far as I'm concerned everyone here fucked up. Airport workers could have helped get this guy to his mother who was less than 100 metres away behind a closed door. RCMP had no justification for using force in this confrontation. But also the guy who got killed was immigrating into Canada to live with his mother and didn't speak a word of english and didn't appear to have anything to aid him communicate with people in Canada. The whole thing is a giant clusterfuck of fail that ended up with a man dead.

Oh it was RCMP? Well that would make more sense being stationed in an Airport.

Nevertheless, were this incident anywhere but an airport it would have never happened. Blame it on all the heightened security bullshit from the "War on Terror" or whatnot but someone looking nervous and anxious in an airport these days is cause enough for alarm.

    Re: Vancouver Airport Tasering

Cops are just getting lazy - using a tazer in any circumstance where someone won't get on the ground, even if they aren't a threat. When the person can't possibly understand their commands, it's even more pathetic.

And I'd be all for it. When police pursue someone and it gears up into a high speed chase, there's a good chance that some innocent people are going to get hurt or killed. The bad thing is it could be by the suspect, or by the cops themselves. I think it's highly irresponsible of police officers, who are there to protect and serve, to engage in behavior that should be only be seen in an action movie. This is real life, and there are people at risk. Capturing 1 person at the potential expense of an innocent civilian's life is not acceptable.

And then that serial killer goes on to freely murder even more people.

Besides, chasing people is a deterrent to others. Less people will run if they think it's futile and will just end up getting themselves hurt or lengthen their sentence.

Until we figure a way to track them reliably, I'm not sure it would be a good idea to send criminal message such "if you run, we wont follow you, so please go park your car on the side of the road". There would just be more people running away
