FFXI Plot-holes and unclear issues

This is most likely another question that doesn't have an actual answer, but what was Eshantarl doing during the crystal war and RoZ?
She didn't want the Gates of Paradise opened, but she had to know about her brothers and their plan. I know the obvious answer is that she didn't exist as a character when RoZ was created.

They gave her some backstory for the Crystal War, she was Cardinal Mildaurion who helped the survivors of Tavnazia get to the safehold. Plus she was the one who cast the spell on the Phomiuna Aqueducts that caused the level cap.

As for what she was doing during RotZ, I would guess that she either didn't have the power within the Armathrwn Society to stop their plan and gained power after they died, or she didn't return to Jeuno until after their plans were foiled and gained her power because she was their long-lost sister. The story does not expressly state her whereabouts, and I would hate to have to "just completely make up reasons".

I could be remembering it wrong, but didn't Eshantarl go on some world travels or something shortly after Phishe emptiness was sealed? Since there is no definitive timeline between expansions it's possible she was just away during that time.

I vaguely recall her joining the Armathrwn Society midway through cop when they attempted to capture Bahamut. Something to the effect she would be joining them officially to monitor them but it would limit her movements from being able to help us.

What exactly was the Gordeus and the Astral Candescence?
I remember one of them was used to power Alexander's Gundam, but what was the other used for and how were they created/found?

So Atamos is some big mysterious avatar of space and time who loves to eat stuff. How did Lilith "summon"(or call forth or whatever word you want to use) and use it?

Altana did.

Lilith's Vana'diel is the original and SHIT GOT FUCKED UP, Altana wanted a reboot which resulted in our world. How she made it to the Walk of Echoes (and then shadowreign world) and started shitfuckingupetc is what I don't know. Maybe it was explained but I don't remember it if it was.

The Gordeus is Alexander's "heart" according to Shantotto. It has to be unraveled in order for Alexander to possess the robot they built for him, which Aphmau's mother had programmed Ovjang and Mnejing to know how to do.

The Astral Candescences were the power sources for the original Alexander robot. Over the ages they were stolen, and the quest to retrieve them is the reason for many of Aht Urhgan's wars (you can even see where the Plinths were stolen from in the boss rooms for Salvage). The robot you fight only works because Razfahd went "fuck it" and had artificial Candescences created.

is there an in-game explanation about the magical pedestals inside Fort karugo-narugo? i don't remember using them for a mission but maybe they are used in a regular quest that i haven't done.

Well, all things magical in Taru owned areas are usually just excepted as "a Taru did it with magic". So there's probably no explanation.

Weren't there soccer-field like areas in Fort Karugo-Narugo (S) and East Ronfaure (S) as well? And I vaguely recall another extra hidden bit added into Meriphataud Mountains (S), but I may be misremembering.

I always wondered, in the English version alot of items, weapons and WS are named after things from other, nonenglish languages. Fluret, Epee, Eisenbrust, Espadon. But all of these items mean things in other languages that FFXI translates in. So if Eisenbrust means Iron Mail in German, what does "Iron Mail" get translated to in German? Espadon means 'sword/gladius' in French so then what does Gladius get translated to? Is "Atonement' translated into the Japanese word for Atonement or is it Romanji'd into something like Attunemasu or something. A lot of the names of mid level weapons are just the name of the weapon in another language.

Arete De Sol means Earring of the Sun, but then how is "Sun Earring" translated in the Spanish Version?

I dont see why there would be any need to change anything.
Using your example;
lets say "Eisenbrust" is a piece of armor and so is "Iron Mail". They both may mean iron mail, but since they are named differently there's no point in changing it to a 3rd different name.

If you're ever curious about what the items are called in other languages, just go into your Windower resources folder (Windower > Plugins > Resources) and it'll have all the multinational item names there.

to answer the questions about translation of names that arent english to begin with... many of them just stick to their phonetic name. Like, Arete Del Sol in Japanese is

アレテデルソル

which reads as Arete deru soru, so its just translated, not translated.

I'd assume the same occurs for a lot of other items across the various languages. The only real important distinction is that they don't have the exact same name.
So instead of iron mail, they could use something which is the equivalent of 'mail of iron' or 'bodypiece of iron' and things like that.
