Windowed mode @ tues patch

Semantics aside, I have a question that hopefully the windower people reading this thread can answer. I made a post a few days ago in Technical Support forums, but the answer I got I can't figure out how to execute. Basically when I use windower I like game_gamma 50, and when I don't use windower it looks like the equivalent of game_gamma 60. I like game_gamma 50 brightness, but have no clue how to change that without windower. Since we won't have access to windower for an indefinite period of time starting next week, this problem is of the utmost urgency (to me)! Would one of you mind a quick answer here or in the thread I made in Tech Support?

Open FFXI config, adjust gamma base until it matches what you want.

may i suggest referring to it as the Windower Project when comparing to the new (and actually official) windowed mode.

Gotta agree with you. I've been using the windower myself for some time but it alway felt like shoddy and buggy third party software. There were always issues no matter how minor. I've always had major lag issues with the windower that didn't exist without it. I never had to use the windower macros or other functionality only for convenience of being able to task switch . Needless to say I will be using SE's version in the upcoming patch.

For someone affiliated with the windower team to come out and say they are the 'official' windower just screams of arrogance and just pushed me away farther. Plus after the fact I don't trust anything Taj associates with now after the crap that happened in the past.

will DX9 resolved issues with nvidia cards?

the latest driver from nvidia (like, july 2007) resolved issues with 99% of nvidia cards (certainly did for all of my 7 and 6 series cards; can't speak for 8 series)

It did not resolve issues for 8x00 series running vista, been trying with various drivers from 169.09 (works horrible) and down. The least bad one seems to be 158.45 which still gives me some 16 FPS just from running in north sandy, so the game is by no means playable event style then either. I'm keeping my fingers crossed really bad for next update ; ;

Running Vista by chance? Vista has a lot of issues with FFXI. Hopefully a Directx9 migration will alleviate those issues.

As a result of his choices the two larger projects that he was working on have lost some credibility; one of those being the Windower. The BG Wiki also lost a lot of his steam when it's main proponent turned out to be nothing more than a misguided teenager who gets off on having his ego stroked.

I don't think anyone would consider Taj BGwiki's "main proponent". Taj was doing the items, but was not an admin or representative of BGwiki.

I have mixed feelings on Taj, myself. He did well exposing otherwiki's fraud, but worldshifting people away from their friends on their own credit cards for 90 days was unacceptable. However, doing one thing does not invalidate anything else he's ever done. He's been a helpful addition to jumpstarting BGwiki, but he's also been an ass.

Either way, neither BGwiki nor Windower has lost any steam in my eyes based on Taj's actions. Windower simply because there are others there who watch what goes into Windower, and BGwiki because Taj does not run or admin the wiki. It's in Sonomaa and FANetwork's (Aikar's?) hands.

Ok to clear up why the BG-Wiki was formed instead of people pulling answers out of their asses, Aikar and Vega approached Sonomaa and I with an offer for a server, if they could advertise on it. Yes, the BG-Wiki was created because of what happened with FFXIclopedia, but it was done so that the people who were no longer using that wiki, would have somewhere to go, without feeling like they were lining someones pockets. Taj is not an admin of the wiki, he helped with some technical stuff for items and later was banned from it after taking his actions too far. He's not associated with the BG-Wiki staff and that's coming straight from the BG Admins, so cut the shit and stop repeating this over and over. Derail anymore threads with this and you will be banned.

Technically, Aikar is right, their program is the official "Windower." As in their name, it's not arrogant, but fact. Thus their program is the official Windower.

SE's windower isn't called windower, but in fact just their game in just windowed mode. Nothing more, nothing less.
