If this turns out to be like odin/alex from ToAU where SE said they were adding in new avatars but never said they'd be summonable....

I dont think them mentioning new avatars had anything to do with the npcs.
That answer was in direct response to new avatars for smns question.

Ok, didn't realize that they were specifically talking about new summoner summons. The info I found on it was pretty vague:

"New summons?
There are plans to introduce new avatars. Beyond that, top secret."

To me it seemed like they redirected the question and instead of answering questions about summonable avatars, they could be mentioning new avatar npcs, i.e. caitsith + atomos

"New summons?" pretty much answers it Meaning there WILL be new avatars, but to which ones, they won't say. The only avatar they have gone on record as not being summonable and never will be, is Bahamaut, and then they explained why.

My guess would be because he is the strongest one of them all and would be a broken summon. lolTerraflare. orz

Pretty much, yeah. I'm sure someone will dig up the actual quotation a few seconds after I post this, but basically they said "Bahamut is too powerful and it would cheapen him to bring him down to something that would not unbalance the game".

If there were new avatars in the game as soon as the expansion went live, wouldn't they be in the .dats with that update on the 19th? Because regardless if you have it or not, other people would have to be able to view them even those without the expansion.

Pretty much yes. They said that in the Storyline he is SO powerful, and so gigantic, in order to give him to Summoners they would not only have to reduce his power greatly, but would also need to reduce his physical size. But doing so would ruin the image of him that was et by the story. So they decided not to do it.

Might not be in the previous update/maintenances. Dont' forget we have maintenance on Monday which they are adding MORE stuff thats coming in with WotG. So It might not even be in the .dat files as of yet.

im thinking during the special event tomorrow(today ) they'll show a Trailer and it will have new avatars in it

Kinda like Diabolos. I always suspected he would be summonable, due to the way he dies, he dies like any avatar. Ppl argued to death SE would never allow summonsers to use him, especially given how huge he is. The Last minute BAM, announced he would be summonable. Like the last possible update to CoP.

That was Valefor. I have no idea who that V one is, maybe 12 since I didn't ever summon anything in it?

From Final Fantasy VI, I think. His old name was Tritoch, his new name in VI Advance is Valigarmanda. Unless I missed something.

Valigarmanda was the original name in the JP version, it got reduced to Tritoch because of English/SNES limitations <_< Same with other summons in 6, like Midgardsormr was reduced to Terrato, etc.

I still hope for Odin (luzaf version) to be it.
it's already complete with idle, summoning anim, sword & spear attacks. and sure it's not omg-mode like the mounted one.
