I think I've mentioned this before, but will anyone else be seriously pissed off if they go against strongly established canon about the 8 Celestial and 5 Terrestrial avatars? That's the main reason I'm very skeptical about anything -other- than Alex and Odin. Phoenix, if anywhere, would be in the Far East I believe, as that's where most knowledge of her was held - SE's never really said "No, we're not giving you Phoenix", nor have they said that about Alex and Odin (on a related note, the ending of ToAU gave me an -extremely- strong vibe of "we're not exactly done with this storyline yet")... But adding in Atomos and/or Cait Sith as avatars would be... monumentally confusing from a storyline point of view. Yes, it's SE, and they very well can pull a bunny out of their ass, but I'm not going to be -happy- about it unless there's a damn good reason there magically are avatars that are of a fundamentally different nature than the ones we know about now. >.>;

Also, Phoenix wouldn't be Fire elemental in the sense that Ifrit is, in the same way that Carby isn't Light-elemental in the same way Alex is, and Fenny and Diabolos aren't Dark-elemental in the same way Odin is.

what im going to guess is that they are going to do what they did with zilart and cop, but for WOTG and TOAU, combine them somehow in the end and so the storyline of both finishes off at the same time

I personally don't see Alexander becoming a summon. He doesn't even MOVE.

Bahamut was "big" in 3d and concept terms : the sight of a flying dragon fighting against a ronfaure hare was comical to say the least. this takes out mounted Odin too, for the same exact reasons.

But shrinking down a mounted horseman to, say, Galka+choco sizes wouldn't ruin his image nearly as much as it would to an iron giant or ruler of wyrms.

as for Power Levels, it's hard to determine who could or could not being summonable, since plot devices could always be used to prove this or that. for ex Fenrir wiped the whole Yagudo Army so i dont see him being inferior to Bahamut or Odin yet SMN can use him.

I fairly certain that the Fenrir Karuha-Baruha summoned to defend Windurst was THE Fenrir,
not the same Avatar form that we as summoners can summon.

RE : Bahamut not being summonable :: Bahamut's basic opinion of humanity is that they suck royal tit. I don't see Baham actually letting some fucktard summoner put a leash around his neck. (Yes, I know, in-character fanwankery.) Carby, Fenrir, Diabolos, Alex, and Odin, on the other hand, have all actively sought some sorts of relationships with humanity and I think both of them might actually agree to a pact with a summoner whereas Bahamut wouldn't. (By these standards, so would Phoenix, based on what we know of her from CoP's storyline.)

up until now, every expansion = 1 new avatar so I wouldnt see they releasing 2 avatars from the same expansion.

Zilart: Summoner released, all avatars were new.
Promathia: Diabolos released.
Aht Urhgan: Nothing.

I always thought it was kind of lame that they didn't let us summon Bahamut, but that's just me.
If I remember in FF7 there were three, Bahamut, Neo Bahamut, and Bahamut Zero, they could have had the BC fights been with one of his stronger forms and given us the weaker one.
Then again, I don't really think these names would fit in FFXI's setting as they are more "Futuristic."
