Hey kid. I'm a computer!

No, actually, I'm a computer idiot and I was hoping someone her might be able to help me. My computer completely blew up yesterday, so I had to reinstall the game on a new computer, which has the proper specs to run it. Graphics, memory, whatever, the computer is up to speed.

After I finally got all the 9 zillion files uploaded, I tried to play the game. When I got to the accept/decline screen, after hitting accept it gave me a little bar saying it was acquiring world info and such and then... blue screen of death.

Strangely, when I tried it again, after hitting accept I got a message saying "The same player is already logged in", like if I had been d/c or something. However, at no point did I ever get to the character selection screen or the login screen to, you know, log in with any of my characters. It 's like the game thought I was logged in when I wasn't or something.

After waiting a little bit, i tried again, and again after hitting accept I got the little load bar, and it did look like the load bar you're supposed to get after you actually select your character from the character screen, not the "accept" section. And once again, blue screen of death.

Now, I don't know much about computers, so I'm stumped. Anyone have any idea what's wrong or how to fix it?

I appreciate the response. However, and maybe I am being obtuse, I don't think this applies, as my computer is using Windows XP rather than Vista. I've had problems with graphic cards before, on a different system, and I never got the blue screen of death, just a different message about my graphics card being crap.

The only thing it said that wasn't generic stuff was this:

Then it had (0x00000000) repeated four times.

I double checked all the system requirements, and the computer is up to grade on everything.

either some hardware is failing
or something isnt installed correctly. is there no file name associated with the BSOD? do you get a BSOD when you run other games?

Nope, no file name. Never seen this screen before with any other program, so it seems likely it had something to do with ffxi; the only time this scren has ever come up is the three times I got to the accept/decline screen on PoL since I installed it.

best bet would be to update your drivers and directx. Second step would be to stress-test your memory and graphics card.

x7F is the most obscure of all the blue screens, congratulations! It basically means you have a software or hardware problem that is not installed correctly (usually a wrong driver, incompatible ram, bad hard drive, ect) so it could be pretty much anything. It is very strange that you get this particular screen only when loading FFXI, you might want to just uninstall and reinstall it and see if that fixes the problem. Before that though, go through the routine of updating your video card drivers, doing a windows update, have POL check files, ect. If none of that seems to help, go with the uninstall/reinstall FFXI route.
