I guess I'm not that type of person or I'm just reminded of games like RPG Maker when I think of making dungeons.Originally Posted by BRP

Dungeon maker should be fun. Placing walls, stairs, doors, floors, etc. where you want, choosing a texture for each piece out of all the different sets, adding touches like braziers or piles of debris here and there, setting light sources and levels, sounds like a lot of potential. It'll be interesting to see what kind of interface they develop that can handle all the different options that'd go into a personal dungeon. Think it'll be user-friendly, or will people need to choose the correct corner piece with the correct texture in the correct position with the correct orientation like TES Construction set? I can already imagine doing a cave with irregular shaped areas are going to be a lot more difficult than simple box-shaped nyzul-like areas. But the simple box shape would be a good place to practice.
It's probably gonna be more about the challenges in the dungeon, than the dungeon itself.

True, forgot about placement of NPCs, scripting, ???s, etc. that all go into creating a dungeon challenge. But before you can do that, you still need to develop your custom dungeon, properly illuminate it, etc.Originally Posted by Sagacious Sundi

I'm including a note signed by "Brick Road" in my dungeon.
I don't even know how to respond to this. I was simply making an analogy, not starting a Harry Potter thread.Originally Posted by LinktheDeme

Wow, I can't believe he actually said it. That's fucking win. Wonder who it was.
I've thought of a possible "other way" which wouldn't surprise me if S-E did it:Originally Posted by Khamsin
Dungeons could be randomly generated but players set certain paramaters for certain things (types of monsters, environment, monster level, etc.)
Something along the lines of how dungeons and fields were generated for 90% of the dungeons in the .hack single player RPG.
Yes, this is entirely different than making a dungeon piece by piece, but it could be seen as one possible interpretation of how the system could be done. Full of win? Hardly, but it's one way to do it while going around "PS2 limitations" and memory issues.

Think the furniture as walls/obstacles, and place them around as you wish. then take some Manequins and put them here and there, those would be the enemies, then select some predefined option from a bunch, i.e:
A. If all Enemies are defeated open next level (pop treasure).
B. If Enemy X is defeated open next level (pop treasure).
I really doubt it will be anything too complex, but look at Pankration, it isn't Pokemon (although Pokemon is simple enough), but certainly customizable and with an amount of options.
