Always enjoyed people who play the game outside the box like lyra. Really nice finds even if you did make me look bad.

Gee, I dunno.. I guess JoL and Tiamat are pretty insignificant if RDM/NIN can tank them... seeing as another shell on our server has a preference for a RDM/NIN tank on Tia and we've used RDM/NIN on JoL.... /shrug

Honestly any retard with an HP bar can tank JoL, it's the easiest absolutely most boring sleepingbag-worthy fight in the game. (There's more to come but I have to go back and quote the chunks I want to respond to.)

    @Ultima - NIN/RDM or NIN/DRK

Ultima for the most part is a zerg type fight for many LS, unless you're low manning it. Tell your melee to pull off when you get too many TP moves and bring them back when your hate and shadows/debuffs are secure again.

Hate wise, I dual tank this with another NIN/DRK, open the fight with Stun > Weapon bash > Sleep, then I start debuff ninjitsu in emnity gear. The other NIN does the same minus weapon bash which he'll use at our next stun, saving LR/SE for spike situations. Almost no matter what your VE from Stun wears off before your next stun so just use haste > emnity and use it every time you can. The spells in between for CE are what will count since your trying to fight off damage from melee with a 400CE Hojo.

When you get to the CB phase, it's cake imo. Magic def/%/Light and HP gear and you shouldn't die to it a single time.

Just proves that tanking in this game is no rocket science and way too easy overall. >_>

Unfortunately, when HNMs aren't buffed up after adding the merit system, of course everything will get easier.

Not implying JoL is difficult, he's a very safe, happy baby seal. Anything that can equip some -magic damage gear can tank him, even without shadows.
I was just relating my hate VS the NIN/DRK. Previously, I was more of a backup in that I only took hate when he took damage/lost a few shadows. Just thought it was sorta mind twisting that Poison was so effective.

Duh it's not rocket science, but there's huge science behind the mechanics of the game, hardly "easy" if people didn't go out and test particular things, otherwise you'd all be stuck with dumb players who still tanked things with 7 WHMs and WAR/MNK + PLD/WAR.

Re: Breaking the Tanking mechanics - once again

What i'm saying is breaking down the mechanics of something that most people already knew is pointless.... Last time I checked our PLD tanks have absolutley no hate issues at all.... While a RDM or even a WHM/NIN have a place where they can tank... So does every other job in the game you slap /nin on.... Your roll as a RDM or WHM is far more important then tanking when our PLD's and NIN's have no problems tanking at all... I could understand if PLD's or NIN's were having problem holding hate on certain mobs, but atleast in our LS they are most definatley not....

I was also not saying RDM/NIN CAN'T tank anything worth while, i'm saying that I wouldn't want them to...... My point is, you're beating a dead horse... just because you CAN tank doesn't me you should.... But I guess having tanks like tiki, ryko, juvant, hondo, eli and the rest of TG might make me jaded, but regardless I'm the type of player that feels a job has a certain roll that I want it to fill, and WHM/NIN tanking isnt one of them when a PLD or NIN does the job perfectly well.

Yeah, dude, why should anyone experiment to see if something else works better when they can find one thing that works, stick their head in the sand, cover their ears, and go "LALALALALALALA, WHM AND RDM SHOULD ONLY PLAY BACKUP, LALALALALALA"

Re: Breaking the Tanking mechanics - once again

you're right because thats the roll they fill in this game.... What happens to all those PLD's who get pushed to the side? they have to fill your rolls as WHM and RDM? or some other job then other people have to fill your roll... its a selfishness of wanting to be the "LEET TANK OMG!" you some how feel that tanking is the most important roll in a party and want to tank the big bad HNM.... So you seek out every option available... if you want to tank so bad stop being lazy and level PLD.

Re: Breaking the Tanking mechanics - once again

good one i actually laughed thanks =D but I guess you're ok with selfishness... and I say shut up, fill your roll in an alliance kill the mob get phat lewtz and everyone's happy... if you and your friends wanna go out and low man on your own time with a WHM/NIN tank DO IT. so agree to disagree no big deal

edit: this will be my last post, i've been told to stop posting or i get banned because apperently having a difference of opinion is against the boards TOS
