    AGP Card Help

I didn't know where else to ask but recently my graphics card blew out attempting to play Crysis. I had the minimum card it required a ATi Radeon 9800 Pro. It literally put the nail in the coffin for it, I had it for about 3 years. I am searching for a new good AGP card.. and I can't decide between Nvidia or ATi. Any AGP users or just knowledgeable people know where to turn to at this point? I am basically looking for the best card available. A lot of people say the Nvidia 7800 GS OC is the best at this point because of it's capabilities.. but I really don't know what to do.

I don't know.. I just feel I should at least give it a bit of loyalty. It did die trying to run the highest spec PC game on the default settings. Well either way it's too late I ended up ordering a Radeon X1950 GT. I mean there is no way on earth it can be worse than a 9800 Pro I am pretty sure it will run Crysis on a bit better without dying lol. Which is really all I want.

1950gt ain't a bad card, its the fastest agp card out there but agp is already an outdated bus so you're gonna have to upgrade soon to a pci mobo. Also, did you check what kind of powersupply you have? you need a heavy one for that card.

And... ATi is good for gaming.

    Re: AGP Card Help

ok so solitare is considered gaming, ATI cards can run that at 1fps usually so i guess thats considering "gaming"

anyways isnt ironic that everyone used to demand AGP mobos and now we're saying you need PCI...express mobos now... i wonder if there will ever be agp express cards, or isnt there already a new slot like that in the works?

    Re: AGP Card Help

Kill, quit with the Nvidia bias. For all the circle-jerk I had to do to get the Nvidia card to run at a *similar* rate to what my old ATI card did by (get this)default, with the newer-gen card performing WORSE than the old-gen ATI... However, on the other hand ATI made their recent chipsets AGP 8x only. Both companies get the Sigi FU award.

Oh yeah. Fuck Nvidia hardcore for their drivers. FIX THE PROBLEMS, DON'T ADD MORE! People ALSO USE LINUX YOU SCHMUCKS!

This is an opinion, not fact.

Every ATI card I've ever had has outperformed every nVidia card I've ever had. nVidia drivers are buggy with FFXI at best. That is a fact.

Both companies make fine cards, Nvidia is unfortunatly winning the war right now as they seem to have deals with all the major computer and video game labels to stamp their logo on everything. Also, Nvidia motherboards seem to be the most popular right now, ensuring that their video cards end up in most systems. Nvidia has poor support for its drivers, while ATI seems to be a step behind in having cheap, well-performing cards (ATI doesn't seem to have much of answer for the 8880GT, but supposedly one is on the way). Izzy is right though, it doesn't mean ATI cards are "not for gaming" as both brands can support games just fine.

    Re: AGP Card Help

for FFXI exclusively I'd go with a ATI card but the best performance/$ falls to nvidia now with the 8800GT

This hits the nail on the head. nVidia makes damn good cards...just not for FFXI.

    Re: AGP Card Help

That's funny every person I know that owns this card has told me nothing but positive things. Running Crysis on at least medium settings is more than good enough for me at this point, I just want to play it. 2GB's of Corsair RAM should also help a lot more.

That's not even a valid reason for disliking ATI, the Nvidia 8800 line outside of the GT looks exactly the same and are as big if not bigger than the ATI card >_>

    Re: AGP Card Help

I really wouldn't invest in a AGP card at this point, current cards are on PCI-e 2.0 if you are a gamer it's probably time to step it up to a new cpu/mobo/ram/video card combo.

I am Levish, that card is just my temporary solution until I do build that PC. I'm pretty satisfied will post results and input once it comes in.
