Do we even know what the Storm and Helix spells do yet? If not, people are being rather preemptive on hating the job...

People are rather preemptive on assuming a job will have all the spells a test character has.

Why would anyone want a BLM competitor? As if BLU doesn't ignore that side of themselves. SCH/RDM is probably going to be a top enfeebler, especially in pairs or threes. Gravityga sounds delicious, as does Bindga.

Storm spells change weather around a person(somewhat vague). Helix are new DoT... apparently devastating compared to previous DoTs, which is why I would pin them as enfeebler endgame.

BLM/SCH is going to be quite nice.

can someone confirm the spell list by checkin the .dats and see if scholar can use the scrolls?

maybe the spell list is extended if your in light or dark mode, otherwise i was excited to play this job and even use it as a sub for WHM but from what it looks like now it just doesnt look so hot. /BLM4lyfe i guess.

I think they want to let players have more than one or two choices for healers in the same way you have many choices for DD.

yeah, I think so too. the only issue I think is that they aren't really interchangeable in most content (either you're in a situation that redmage is strictly better; like merit. or you're in a situation that redmage can barely heal at all, like an aoe-happy einherjar)

it'd be nice to see redmage get something that would improve their aoe handling (another thing that /sch would've given: aoe-cure IV on charges if shit hit the fan) and something to improve whitemage's endurance for routine healing (another thing that /sch sort of gives - although not as much as I think some were hoping, with the potency boost and aoe-builder out of range)

overall, I'm reserved about scholar - I think it has potential; but it's not nearly as attractive for subjob as I had hoped it would be (i.e. revolutionary)

Actually this spell list comes from scrolls description, and not from spell descriptions (which anyway doesn't give job/lvl who can use that spell) ; ;

This is my guess. I bet that the list you're seeing in POLutils is the deafault spell list and it is extended when light/dark grim is activated.

That spell list does look quite dissapointing, but I will most definitely wait til endgame/confirmation on that list. Even if true though, the main focus of the job 9the weather abilities and DoT spells), remain untested, so eh...lemme see them first.

/SCH isn't as good as I was hoping either, but a lot of people seem to have set their expectations a bit too high. SCH has to be able to do something nice as a main before the 70s you know >.>

I was just looking in the dats at spell scrolls. No RII, no Refresh, no Haste, no Grav, no Stoneskin, no ~na spells.

Just did a run at the .dat list-- the spell list is correct.

Looks like SCH will be sub dependant indeed. Even though I'm mildly dissapointed, I had my sights on playing SCH/RDM to 75 anyways, lol. Evenso, there's still time in the future to tack on more spells courtesy of SE.

I guess those that have RDM lvl'd 50+ can see the good side in that they don't have to whore out much for spells to 75, outside of the SCH Onry ones.

I'm thinking that's possible, but again, getting hopes up is dumb. I don't even expect these jobs to be able to use any Salvage gear. And it doesn't even bother me.

Scholar is looking very close to what I thought it would. I didn't expect it to have Haste, Refresh, or Gravity. (Would you imagine the Red Mage bawww? Man, got enough of that last expansion with BLU). I'm only surprised at the lack -na spells(or enfeebles, but more so -na). Scholar will be a master of a limited amount of magic. I think people aren't putting enough faith in how nice these abilities will be. Especially if you can use them in bursts if you are assured some downtime.

Tell that to SMNs....

On topic: I think that's the real spell list and Scholar's abilities made to take out the most from the subjob of choice, extending his spell list by adding subjob spells actually worth using. I.E. a Sleep that doesn't need to be EleSealed to land on an XP mob

But it would still requires player to buy the scroll in order to use it, even if Dark/Light arts would trigger their use.

I was seriously hoping for Haste/Refresh being available to Scholar, considering you'd think those two spells would fit perfectly into the job's potential role. Almost feels like I'm being blue balled.

extremely potent DoT spells that increase based on the weather of the area if the appropriate element spell is cast.

So both the Helix and Storm spells are DoTs? Tiers of each other, I assume?

But how exaclty would the spell list be extended? Use Dark Arts and get access to Tier IV nukes without ever having to use a scroll to learn it first? Possible I guess.
