Again, i want to see in-game. I'm not gonna call it one way or the other yet, but something about this just doesn't add up.
In the blue mage introduction video they showed it casting Spider Web...which we still don't have.
Now I don't remember how long before ToAU that BLU video was, but it sure wasn't a week before the expansion goes live.
The first BLU video was in like September 2005 or something.

I think it would actually make sense for SCH to require WHM and/or BLM at 75 to be good...mostly because by this point, 90% of people have Lv75 jobs, amirite?

This would be putting endgame to good use..

What id like to geuss is that the spell list were seeing now is the base spell list without any grimoires/books activated. Activating the books probly expands the spell selection to say from tier 3 nukes to tier 4 nukes but only when the book is activated. Also it most likely is that once something is used on one book it disapears when that book is not used. (the SS in the demo going down). This probly is to prevent abuse of getting access to higher lvl whm and blm spell for game balance.

SE did also specifily state that useing a black/white book would allow you a limited selection of spells from that school of magic (white and black). For example use aoe R2 on whm book then switch to blm book and increase damage of a tier 4 nuke.
best way to organize this information as its released/found (imo) would be:
Base spell (name/lvl learned) white book (spell/lvl available) black book (spell/lvl available)

Idea is sorta basic in this regards. like a rdm but using a ja you can neglect 1/2 your magic skills to become decent (B rated) in another skill and have access to more spells of that version though less then its full counter part (no ga's from blm or all na's from whm)

This makes sense for in game use but now why people are saying the dats don't have SCL on the scrolls.

    Re: Scholar discussion

As much as I would really like the theory "good grimoire activates more spells", I fear it's not what will happen. SE would have advertized about this, like "not only you get bonus using white magic spells with white grimoire, but you get access to more spells".

And all these missing spells are what make RDM and WHM very unique (minus haste and refresh, which were never on that list iirc).
But this doesn't explain why they teased us with all these spells at fanfest though...

I get the feeling that the 3 charges wont be enough. Especially considering you only, what, 1, subbing it? We will see, though.

Y'know, it's always possible SE wants to see how people will play the jobs, then add more spells/abilities based on what it needs (to boost unused aspects of the job and compliment how players use the job), adjust/add equipment accordingly, add merits accordingly, adjust Maat fight accordingly, etc.

    Re: Scholar discussion

I'm sure they do look at how jobs are played and take that into consideration.

However, if you're looking to add more alternative suppot jobs, refresh and haste are a requirement. Having 20 jobs in the game, and only four are able to cast haste (spell, song, dance), and only three are able to refresh (spell, dice, song), bottlenecks leveling up to a painful degree.

When you're making an XP party, you're essentially praying that 3 out of 20 jobs will be seeking, and then picking -anything- from the rest of the list to fill the party, and thats a bit ridiculous. It doesn't really matter how well SCH plays out, its still just going to be filling an extra spot in the party, and not an essential one.

    Same things as .dat.

SCH can wear genbu's shield, rr pumps, walhara turban (all jobs anyway), blue and rainbow capes, errant, jet seraweels, seers.

I really am hoping that the expansion / unlocking the job changes things, because as it stands now, SCH seems like PUP of WotG

Regen2 at 37 is nifty though I must say. Would be nice in salvage, Phalanx2 + Regen2 on tank, then it pretty much takes care of itself on those floors where you don't need to remove status effects with -na.

    QFT.

I was originally hoping for something that would give PT members gradual mp even the slightest bit or boost clear mind and conserve mp for party members. But yeah that kinda died when they revealed more details.

    We need more MP recovery.

Getting tired of princess bards. >_>

    Re: Scholar discussion

Scholar not having Blnk or Stoneskin makes it utterly useless as a BLM sub, Spells costing less MP and casting being reduced means very little when you are face down (or up if you are a giraffe) in the dirt dead as a dodo.

I can see it useful for RDM solo and WHM.

Spooky will you join me in the BLM QQ?

    Re: Scholar discussion

Actually, I really see the idea that more spells can be accessed when you use Light/ Dark Arts. It certainly explains why SS wore off when a mode was switched.

Regardless, i still see many, many possiblities with Scholar when combined with the right subs:

Stoneskinga, Regenga II, Curega III-ish spell every 4 minutes (WHM sub)
Tier IV-ish nukes every 4 minutes, Sleepga, Aspirga, Drainga (BLM sub)
Stoneskinga, Phalanxga, Dispelga, En-spellgas (RDM subs)

And we dont even knw how potent their exclusive spells will be.

I still am excited about the potential of this job.

    Re: Scholar discussion

Ioh don't get me wrong I'm excited about the prospect of the job as a Main... But I'm absolutely fucking disappointed at the prospect of it as a sub (it certainly won't be game breaking for mages like SE suggested) unless of course somehow when u have your Arts opened you gain extra magic which maybe you don't need a scroll to know? since it maybe inherent. which could be why the scrolls don't need SCH added to them?

    I know probably clutching at straws here.. but a Mage can only hope <.<;

I have very high hopes for the Helix spells...if they can stack like BLM elemental debuffs do, and do as much DoT as SE has been claiming they do, we just might have the first DoT "nuke" in the game :S

    Re: Scholar discussion

    This has got me wondering:

"Optimizes white magic capability while lowering black magic proficiency"

Why is capability optimized and not profiency? I think this may be a clue to expanded spell lists under each Art (which was said by the developers so...)
