My question is why the WHM RDM and NIN are there o.o Does your server magicially get more tanks/healers lfg than DDs? Can I migrate there?Originally Posted by miokomioko

I'm having trouble finding parties as well but then decided to do something about it. Last night made a DNC(me), PLD, WAR/NIN, DRK, RDM, MNK on crabs and that completely sucked only because we were a tad too low (50-52). The PLD d/c's and there's absolutely no tanks seeking. Luckily the DRK had WAR the same level so I asked him to switch and we switched to Quicksands Caves. Eventually got a BLM (not really to nuke but to support the RDM a bit since DNC can only do so much) There were seriously like no parties my level range so we went uncontested for the most part. Got mostly everyone to 52 and we moved to Knight Crawlers again completely uncontested and EXP flowed beautifully.
I went from 51-54 in that party in maybe 5 hours of lvling and made sure everyone else got atleast 3 levels before one of the WAR's wife had come home and had to leave so we disbanded. I was more or less main healing the party with two WARs tanking whom didn't completely suck and the RDM was more or less supporting with enfeebles and some cures every once in awhile. Was alternating Quickstep and Stutterstep(for stun) and only had one death because one of the WARs nearly got one-shotted from a Death Scissors and I panicked and used provoke (which didn't work) instead of Violent Flourish to buy myself time to heal her so the scorp finished her off.
Just have to think outside of the box really. It's feasible to use two SAM tanks too provided they're willing to actually do it although probably a bit harder to maintain. However it's really not hard for a DNC to pull hate when they want so you can also help tank using Violent Flourish when necessary and also to help put up shadows.
There's always lack of DD on mine, plenty of healers and tanks.Originally Posted by Ryushii
Send some of your tanks our way, we always seem to be lacking in them for lower level parties. ;;Originally Posted by Koyangi

People are getting into the very bad habit of just getting two Dancers and considering them dual tanks and main healers and filling the rest of party with DDs that get the party fucked in the ass because we can't keep up TP for healing AoE/DA dmg + can't keep our ichi shadows up when we do pull hate from curing + spend all our valuable finishing moves on weak ass provokes.
Then there's the white mages that get dancers so they can sit back and spam dia and banish for skillups.
Lovin' it.
Invites are pretty much non-existent after 9EST on Odin. Getting invites on a non princess job/tank is hard enough during these hours, getting one with 3-4 other people seeking on the job makes seeking moot. I'd start parties easily, if there were any tanks seeking, ever. The last few nights I've seen more Brd's seeking than Paladins and most Wars on my server (<50) are too chickenshit to attempt tanking.
after messing around at 75 for a while i have to say.
dnc has alot of potenital but is seriously lacking in the endgame department of sorts.
the fact that all of the cures are on the same timer really sucks. anything worth fighting at 75 will in some form do way more dmg than can be healed with one cure.
also tp gain on some nms and the lack of an curaga 2 makes it hard to rely on dnc alot.
eg i did ultima the other day. and daggers basically hit for 0 most of the time. depending solely on steps and reverse flourish is totally not enough for tp gain.
/sam is suicide cus of aoe attacks.
it was very difficult to keep up curing during this fight at times, i hope they make some positive changes in the near future as i do like this job
I feel you guys. I went from Wednesday > Friday looking for party anytime I was online and not doing an LS event and I got 1 party invite the entire time. x.x Hai2u CampaignOriginally Posted by blister1

Gusta/Ronfaure [S] xp makes soloing through that stretch a breeze. Get a duo and you'll fly through it.
Hey, just going to post here about /thf, i didn't see another topic for it but wasn't sure if it deserved it's own.
For those who don't straight tp burn kirin (and even if you do) my ls recently did 4 Kirin runs and I was the th4 whore so i figured I might as well try /dnc. (my dnc is lvl 50)
Findings:
1) was easy to keep box step at lvl 5 the entire fight (once getting it there of course) was hard to do both quick and box, if i was getting acc songs maybe but i decided to just keep box at 5. When i tried to alternate one would usually wear off ~lvl 3, but if i stayed with one it stayed lvl 5. I did notice a speed up on the DD when i had lvl 5 box step on. sam's were doing 450-550 gekko's with 100tp hagun without minuet, i don't know what the norm is.
2) I was able to land gravity on Kirin many times as thf/dnc. To the point where it became reliable when feint was up. Feint + Desperate Flourish is ~95% or higher gravity rate, I never missed gravity with Feint on. When I had cor or brd give acc buffs I landed gravity much more often even without feint up, and often when it had already gotten to the point where rdm's were getting resisted. I found this to be very interesting.
3) cures were decent, but often it was hard to keep TP up. I was pty lead for melee pty and I had sam's feeding me tp to keep mine up though.
Screw the dunes, you're a dancer! You can easily solo to 15, at which point in time Curing Waltz allows you to mass-chain EM-low T mobs in the Tahrongi/Buburimu continuum straight to 25 or so, laughing all the way. Curing Waltz felt absolutely broken during those levels, like having a button you can press whenever you want to fill up your HP. Of course, your TP generation rate needs to be high enough to fuel it, but that's no problem against EM-low T targets in this level range.Originally Posted by Tricen
I generally say "screw the dunes" on *any* job, though, and just solo until I'm out of Qufim or so. This is easier or harder depending on the job. For DNC, it's a breeze. Easier than XPing on ITs with a party, even.
Wasnt sure if it came up, i couldnt find it on search... But just tanked Fafnir on NIN/DNC today, started the fight with TP and use a standard Merit PT TP setup lol(haste, acc and some atk to do consistent dmg usually 10-30). Was in the tank party co-tanking with a pld/nin and it was "ok". Spammed ninjutsu, and healing waltzes when i had the chance. Also stuck quickstep for EVA down effect (im not sure of the amount, but im fairly sure its gimped with /dnc). Big problem for fafnir was the blind, i think with a mage covering me for blindna, or with eye drops it would be a lot better overall.
I started with 300 tp, and a few finishing moves so i was able to cure and "voke"(very gimp voke lol) from the start to build some initial hate. It seemed like most of my long-term hate was generate with ninjutsu- although i forgot my hojo tools on my mule lol. I think that NIN/DNC or DNC tanking has more potential in the melee party, since the tank party is 4 mages with stoneskin (so the curaga isnt nearly as effective as it would be in melee pt). I was also 2boxing the only healer in the melee pt so i realy think it could do better then it did.
As expected, the pld held a bit more hate overall, but i was able to grab hate as soon as he got hit, or when it winged using divine waltz->utsuni... the instant cast into a ni-cast was very effective for grabing hate in a hurry after the wing. As far as "Spike hate" goes i felt pretty helpless at times when the melee pulled hate because of the inability to cross PT Cure. For this reason i think it would be better as a melee PT Support healer/backup tank than holding a place in the main tank party.
I'll build a proper gearset for it and try it again soon. We also have a few members almost 75DNC who we'll be testing out in similar roles on various HNMS.
If this was discussed allready- sorry i couldnt find it with search and thought i'd post my experience.
Box Step is the same on main vs sub, so there's no reason to believe Quickstep would be different.Originally Posted by Ravenlokk
Best use I've found for /Dnc, put one in a melee party, and they can more or less take care of that party with little outside curing (unless there is a melee who likes to actively voke > WS > spam hate moves, and needs a bunch of cure V's to stay alive) at least during sky/sea farming so far.
Of course, it is also wtfamazing for campaign too.
This happens to me often as well.Originally Posted by miokomioko
2 DNCs tanking Colbri which eat food out the wazoo and I used to not be able to hit these without sushi when I first started unless I landed a few quicksteps. (My ACC gear is not bad mind you, Bone Knife+1s x 2, Peacock Charm, Battle Gloves, Rajas Ring, Sniper, Life Belt/Swift Belt)
WHMs don't cure so they can "nuke." DDs go all out thinking I can hold hate. After a while I just said I wasn't feeling well cause I couldn't take it anymore.
People are lucky I'm patient. 4 Deaths is when I called it quits. Most others quit after the 2nd.
I experienced that recently as well (but as the only Dnc) and didn't find out I was supposed to be the tank til I got to camp (Kuftal Tunnel at 51 before we moved). Even with Crow Jupon I was still pulling hate with CW3. But as you mentioned, the Provokes are definately not worth the cost. If they only cost 1 FM I could see them as being more viable, but I prefer to use Violent Flourish since it provides alot more at a cheaper cost.Originally Posted by miokomioko
On a side note, do most tend to keep Drain Samba up as often as possible or mainly when you have excess TP? I'm currently only using it when I'm nearly capped on TP mainly because I've been having to spam CW3 and HW at times and want to make sure I have TP built up for it. Or does it depend on what you're fighting (ex. fighting Blm mobs with spikes)?
It's situational, I usually choose the samba to use based on the party setup, the mobs being fought, and just whichever one overall seems best.Originally Posted by Tomiko
I hardly use Drain Samba at all. The benefits of Haste Samba outweigh it in any party setup, for the cost, unless you're really low on healing; and even then I'd be happier using TP on CW3 over Drain Samba II.Originally Posted by Tomiko
