    Re: Dancer discussion

I have a perma, so I'm not going to exp on things that suck Unfortunately, that also means I'm not really going to leech a LS merit party; our group is SCH DNC SAM BST (we sometimes pick up more people, sometimes not). We have an outside 75 RDM, although I can usually handle the healing np. But it's nice to have someone not affecting exp for haste/backup cures so the SCH can just nuke/debuff.

(In case you're wondering, I took COR 69-75 on Greater Colibri before anyone really discovered them for merits on my server.)

What do people think of Cobra Unit Knife for offhand? DMG 25 Delay 171, it's the lowest delay dagger DNC can currently equip (the DoT falls between Martial and NQ Behemoth). I guess I'd want to have a different dagger to use on really high DEF stuff, regardless.

I really wish they would make Dancer a bit more useful in the HNM scene. Would give me more of a reason to level it then just a job I could solo really well with.

Mire - Imp, it sux... but still decent. Most melees don't like coz they can do WS so often either. But... Imp's hp is low, and really low.
At 72+, mostly on birds and mamools. Once was DNC + 5 DRKs on Mamools.

    Cheers!

I have a question thats been bugging me for a bit that I am sure some veteran DNCs could maybe answer:

What exactly are the factors that prevent a DNC from main healing parties past 40?
ie. TP gain, TP cost, recast timers, etc

The usual stuff from the get go (when you get curing waltz from 15 on)

The fact you can't heal from the start (e.g no TP), and monsters 40+ get a lot tougher.

Combination of TP cost of Waltzes and Recasts.

Until 70, the most you can heal for in one Waltz is around 350 HP, at that comes at the cost of 50 TP. A couple of bad rounds or TP moves and a tank can easily take damage faster than you can cure them.

There's also the fact that if you're main healing, you can't erase anything, or you're without cures for 15 seconds, so mob selection is reduced a fair bit.

This sums it up pretty well, tbh. The amount of TP gained/TP used isn't exactly balanced. Pair that with recasts, and a bad round of attacks, and you can find yourself without enough TP to heal.

Granted, steps and Reverse Flourish can be a quick fix, but if you're struggling for TP already at that point, odds are you're not going to be able to Step>Step>Reverse in enough time to get off another cure.

    Re: Dancer discussion

I've been able to main heal a party 57-58 lvl @ the Ley point so there was no AOE. But i think it does take a certain setup. To avoid the situations described above which are, absolutely true, you need 2 things 1) A competent Paladin who can ride out low TP times and doesn't take too much dmg 2) A good back up tank or a THF to seal hate on the Paladin.

MY party was at the Ley Point and setup was War/War/PLD/THF/DNC and a WHM who was AFK or really bored most of the time. I told him just to haste everyone. He ended up leaving and i continued to main heal for a while after he left with no problems i found myself looking for ways to use TP.

I don't think a DNC can main heal a Ninja tank for the reasons in the above post.

Aslo to avoid leveling on Imps in the 66-71 range, why don't you just go to Bibiki bay, its not spectacular but atleast you can serve a purpose. I'd also wouldn't recommend main healing Bibiki bay if your doing Gobs.

2 DNC can main heal. Since there's so many that shouldn't be a problem to find.

    Re: Dancer discussion

I wish they put healing and divine waltz on a different timer to curing waltz, maybe have a waltz 2 category, and give us divine walltz 2. things actually might even out a bit.

maybe reduce the needed tp a bit. im sure on af something like conserve tp will be added. or maybe increase the amount of finishing moves. so when reverse flourish, can get back 100tp.

make our stun reliable so we can buy time waiting on recast timers, cus animate flourish is crap even when using 2 finishing moves. If we cannot keep up with the damage directly with curing waltz then give a means to reduce the dmg being given.

like use a finishing move to create a shadow or 2 on a target player, or something like invincible flourish.
1 finishing move negates 100 hp dmg on target pc
    2 200
    3 300
something like that with a high recast that does not make it over powered giving you technically a 300hp cure

A good 67-69 alternative are the Shades by the zone to the Ashu Talif assaults. They die very fast and give quite a bit of exp until 70.

    Re: Dancer discussion

Is AoE TP reset really a huge improvement over AoE amnesia for DNC? I mean...okay, I guess it's better, and they do have more than 2 TP moves. I can still see myself doing quite a bit of /headdesk, though.

And yeah, I had forgotten about Bibiki Bay; with a BRD, it can actually be really good.

    Bit obscure, but-

As a higher level Dancer- what do you prefer for Corsair rolls? Samurai and Fighter's?

(Of course, we're still waiting on Dancer's and Scholar's rolls here,)

From my experiences, it's mainly recast timers, and even then, it's really only a problem when there are bad links and the occasional bad luck with TP moves.

I've done a few DNC, BRD, COR, DDx3 merit PTs, and for the most part, I can handle it fine. Only when we get back-to-back TP moves from Mamools (Fire Spit and their 4-hit WSs) is there a serious problem. On G. Colibri, I can main heal fairly easily keeping Haste Samba almost all the time. On Mamools, sometimes I have to put Drain Samba up. So, I would have to say DNCs can main heal in good/ideal PTs but they come up short in emergency situations. I wouldn't try to main heal unless absolutely necessary in pick-up PTs, though. Like posters above have said, just get a WHM or RDM (or even SMN) and have them haste everybody and heal when needed. Chances are, one or both of you will be bored at some point, but it's less stressful for everyone.

As for rolls, as long as the PT can keep chaining, I usually prefer COR roll since not many other rolls (except maybe WAR or THF with one in PT) can give you 15-20% more killing speed, especially in merit PTs where killing too quickly is always a problem. After that, it's whatever roll will benefit the party the most, depending on the mob, the food the melees are eating, as well as what melees are present. DRK, WAR, THF, and RNG are the usual, obvious choices. I never cared for SAM roll since I have no problems with TP (might be useful in HNM-type situations, but in those cases, you'll probably benefit more from the melee rolls).

I'm thinking SE considered Drain Samba to be apart of their healing ability and is to be used in addition with waltzes

My rule on COR is this. If we can keep the chain with 1 melee roll/exp roll then by all means I'll use that gladly. If using the exp roll prevents us from keeping a chain going, I'll drop the exp roll and put up a 2nd melee roll.

    bingo

cor roll > all other rolls for xp over time except where it causes you to lose chain where you otherwise wouldn't have

    Re: Dancer discussion

ok, eventually I got chance to go Omega with my DNC75.

Surprisingly, I went DNC75/NIN37, although I have leveled SAM40 for this subjob. I felt regret to go DNC75/SAM37... 3 minutes 60TP, not worth it.... imo.

I was in pt with BLU, good thing for this.

My BLU tried to keep up Stoneskin for us, while we can just stay Melee on Omega at whatever legs situation it is. Also, I have SAM and RDM in pt too. RDM has been keeping our HP healthy with my support too. (Although RDM died once, I think.)

What I did during the whole fight -
Spam Stutter Steps (Magic Def down) and VF (Stun)
Reverse TP whenever I have 4 or 5 moves.
In the beginning, I missed a bit, use Sushi, changed ACC+ gears, keep Shadows up.
Repeating doing that, until Stutter is max'd and doing Box/ Quick and Stutter (to keep it at lvl 5).
Occasionally, Curaga Dance and also CURE V dance on whoever at super low HP.

At Omega 25%, we farm PoD, i.e. kiting it for a while, I was chasing it, keep on doing Stutter (Magic def down) max'd and gravity flourish/ stun w/e I can. (At kiter stopped to recast shadows).

I can't tell if Stutter helps, but I think BLMs nuking at last 20% (when we decided to kill) is faster than usual. Also, my VF stunned quite often also.

I am sure there should be something to improve. Since this is my first Omega as DNC, plus once I was 75, I stopped a bit and back to play my THF more than DNC. (playing skill is kinda rusty as for DNC )

    cheers !

p.s. one DNC as main heal = kill your tank and then yourself, imo. I always think of this. (Ppl before my post have well explained.)
    however, 2 DNC = main heal, I won't disagree

p.s. I had gone DNC75 to AC, LBC (in Salvage also). I will tried to post what I did later, it's late and I am sleepy

    Re: Dancer discussion

While I wouldn't complain about having higher magic accuracy on Proto-Omega as BLM, it's not that much more resistant than something like an Aura Statue, imho. Every little bit helps though, of course.
