That's correct. You can animation cancel something like Provoke, Charm, Counterstance, Elemental Seal, w/e have you because it is instant with a 1 second animation.

Chocobo Jig is like a fixed 5 seconds. So you can blink the first second but you're still stuck in the last 4 seconds of the animation before you can do anything.

Eh I have a really crappy comp and it definitely takes more than 5 seconds to load up after the equipment change. It will do the full animation no mater what whenever your char loads back on your screen.

Does it count as a necrobump if you're bumping a sticky?

Anyway, now that Nyzul finally put out and I've unlocked Kleos, I was wondering if anyone would like to post their gear sets for what they use for Kleos (or Dancing Edge to a lesser extent, I guess). I'm finally getting off my lazy ass and trying to come up with a build, and I'm having a kind of a difficult time trying to come up with something decent. And if I can avoid the fugliness that is Enkidu, all the better. d('-'

(not necessarily a deal breaker though)

I doubt my setup is an optimum setup, but it works quite nice for me..

Azoth / Joyeuse / Blank / Tiphia Sting
Enkidu (sorry, ugly I know) / Soil / Diabolos / Brutal
    AF2 / Akinji / Rajas / Iota
    Amemet+1 / Warwolf / Denali / Denali

Without food it gives me Str 65+15, Dex 69+23, and a nice amount of accuracy since it's multi-hit. If anyone has any better setup/armor piece for under a mil let me know. Always looking for constructive criticism as well.

Seems solid to me. I don't have Kleos. I use something similar: I use Hume RSE 60ish boots for Feet. O. Hat for head. Life Belt for waist. Otherwise it's roughly the same deal.

Again, I doubt this is optimum but it works fine so I can't complain, especially with such shitty gear choices.

And me personally I sport the Enkidu deal body legs head on WS.

Yes, denali hands would be nice. Too bad I've yet to see a pair drop since beginning nyzul a little over 14 months ago. I'm curious though.. I know the mods on PK/DE/Etc. all seem to have Dex+ but what about Alky Bracelets? Is the +11 Str worth losing 6 Dex for? It's quite a large chunk of Str+ in exchange for Dex-.. but I've never been one to like equipment that negates stats while meleeing/WSing.

Yeah I'm in the same boat you are.

    -stats = no good.

and for the most part people shy away from alky on other dagger jobs
probably better to shy away from on this job too.

Least I'm going to tell myself that, so I don't have to get a pair.

So I don't wanna sound like a total moron, but, from my understanding, a .dat swap only visually effects the person that did the swap. So wouldn't everyone else still see a DNC that deleted the jig animation perform the annoying dance?

So what happens after that, if that is true? They will perform the dance to everyone else and then just teleport to wherever they happened to be? Would they dance while moving to everyone else? Or would they just flat out not perform the dance?

My best guess is that they would be "sliding" forward in the dance animation.

Its been awhile since it was mentioned, but how did everyone end up doing their Tier 2 merits? I saw the common plan was 1 in each dance then 5 NFR & 3 Closed Position.

I already have 1 in each dance and 3 in No Foot Rise but I've been debating on the final 5 merits for the catagory. I'll likely do 3 Closed Position, but as for the final 2 I'm not sure if I want to cap No Foot Rise or Closed position. My main concern is that I won't need the full 5 Finishes from No Foot Rise once I get going and use steps. So for those with 5/5 NFR, how often do you use the full 5 Finishes from it? (Not counting pre-battle obviously)

I don't have 5/5 NFR (4/5), but generally, if I see myself sitting on NFR with it open, I basically end my chain with it, so it goes something like:

Violent Flourish -> Quick Step -> Pyrrhic Kleos -> Reverse Flourish -> No Foot Rise.

I wouldn't ever worry about overwriting or losing excess FMs. It's a problem with capping at an odd-number of FMs when you gain two per step. The caveat though is that steps can always miss. No Foot Rise is a guaranteed 5 FMs, and it's regardless of how many you actually have.

I've been thinking of 3/5 NFR and 5/5 CP since FMs come by pretty quick. So far I only have 1 in NFR/saber/fan, 2 in RF, and capped haste samba. My goal was to try and not need sushi so badly (I'll end up with dagger merits someday, I know it) as well as not to depend on the 3-minute JA but then marinara pizza came around and gave us a nice bit of awesome for acc/att on the cheap...

Anyone know how far off center with the mob's face you can be and still get the CP's effect? I figure for huge mobs like faf where you'd be standing on his front paws that you'd still get the effect, but I wonder if you can stand just far enough to the side to avoid cone-shaped attacks from smaller mobs and still get the bonus.

A bit late, but my WS build for Kleos is:
    Azoth /// Joyuese /// --- /// Black Tathlum
Gnadbhod's Helm /// Love Torque /// Pixie Earring /// Hollow Earring
Antares Harness /// Enkidu's Mittens /// Iota Ring /// Rajas Ring
    Amemet+1 /// Warwolf Belt /// Enkidu's Subligar /// Enkidu's Leggings

    Comes out to +47DEX +26STR
For Dancing Edge, I use Enkidu's Cap instead of Gnadbhod and Delta Earring instead of Pixie. Enkidu's Cap is probably better for more evasive monsters as well. Still need Etoile Cape, but I haven't really been interested in Denali's; it doesn't seem that great to me, unless you really think Enkidu's is that ugly (I just hate the harness).

As for merits, I did 1 Fan 1 Sabre 5 NFR and am still 0/3 on CP. Fan and Sabre seem really useless so far to me...but I doubt I'll bother getting 5 CP, so I'll just keep them. I think NRF works best at 3 or 5 merits, since either one will just need a step or can be immediately used for Reverse Flourish (having it at 4 merits for so long was annoying because I wanted to try to make it "fit" perfectly and ended up wasting time that way). I think which is best depends on how much you, in particular, would benefit from CP. If you solo a lot, then it's probably better, but I don't find myself in need of accuracy or evasion most of the time.

Hey i'v recently took dnc to 75 but i am really uncertain as to what can really be effective, i understand meele jobs haste build, but from my exp it seems acc plays me a much better role then stacking haste, 1st i'd like to know what are good weapon options debating between.

Behemonth knife + joy-toy or Jambiya (because adder is to damn hard to get made) or azoth +joy toy/B. Knife, i have recently tested out and liked azoth but i'd like to know if it's truely worth is price tag, do most of you consider acc over haste? or 50/50 also are steps merits worth maxing? or are the af2 feet+ hands enough, if this has been explained somewhere i'm sorry but i don't feel like toggling thru all these pages finding it lol, just want to know a good route to take

Step merits aren't really worth it. Af hands and relic boots give enough a boost as is and you can just macro on more normal acc in gear to achieve the same effect if you really need it.

Haste should be something to focus on unless your acc is incredibly terrible. You don't really have to read much in this thread to find some info... like the last few pages (ignore the flames; not hard to spot) you can just skim for stuff quickly.

Azoth, tbh, isn't worth 1M+. If you can get it as a regular drop with your ls then by all means get it, but put your gil toward other gear upgrades first if buying it is your only option. BH+1 x2 or BH+1/joy is fine, or going super cheap with bh nq x2 is acceptable if you're still getting other gear. Can also try twisting some arms and getting into MMM for an ermine's tail but that can lead to either profound joy or utter heart break (stupid empty box mongers...).

Other merit options have been discussed and a fair pattern has emerged that's mostly agreeable with any dnc: max haste samba and reverse flourish, one in saber and fan dance, and then your choice in maxing either closed position or no foot rise and then three into the one you didn't max. Or some combo of any of them... really up to you and how you treat your dnc (read up on some arguments for and against maxed NFR/CP and think of how they apply to your dnc).

Im really debating on haste samba...and reverse F. i mainly do alot of campaign with dnc and small man events to where i am open for dding a bit so i choose building florish, i havnt maxed it yet tho, i dont think any of them are bad choices, but i find my self rarely using haste samba since drain samba seems to be really worth it. but i'm open to any options. as far as group 2 im going nfr 5/5 undecided on CP. as far as daggers go it's 1.3-4 mil here, it's high damage but i don't like spending that much for things like that (rarely used jobs etc) but wondering if i should just stick with joy or go another dagger, i cant merit sword skill due to mnk and rng tho.

I use haste samba most often now that I've maxed it since its boost benefits more then just me. In most situations my melee pts either take almost no dmg or a whole lot of dmg at once (normally on one person unless bad aoe where everyone backs out of aoe range for cures if possible) so waltzes are there for curing quicker then waiting for DS3 to cure them up (but that's not to say DS doesn't have its uses, which it does for some things like lvl caps).

RF can be used in all cases for everything dnc can do while BF can't is what it boiled down to for me as my ls and friends have given me chances to use dnc for more then just merits/campaign. That was my situation so I went with a more universal choice. Plus I'm starting to see just straight up ws spamming using RF every 30 seconds to be a little better sometimes for meriting.

My reasoning for 3NFR is thusly: you should always try to use steps. You don't even have to face the mob to use steps on them, so you should have a steady flow of FMs as a result. At 3/5 you have less chance of wasted FMs unless you're on a horrible missing streak. Not that having more then necessary is a bad thing, I'd imagine it'll eventually help you for something, but 3/5 should be enough more often for how I use dnc anyway.

Closed Position can be a gamble as you need to be in the mob's face to get the bonus (if you noticed I asked how far you could be off center and still get the bonus; I can't test this myself yet as I'm still gathering merits for the other stuff). It's great for soloers with the eva+ and can help bring up your acc no matter what weapons you're using. Pretty nifty if wanting to use joyeuse as it'll be a nice acc boost, but for things with cone-aoe attacks you'll have to take some care in positioning. Obviously for campaign it's not a big deal since you can hit anything there without any issues with joyeuse but the eva+ for mob tanking could come in handy. Bunch of coulds and chances here so mileage may vary. I'm going all in since saber/fan aren't terribly worth more then one merit anyway.

Those are my views anyway. I hope it helps solidify a merit outlook for you.

    tl;dr - merits for me:
haste samba = 5 (melee pt loves this)
RF = 5 (faster tp gain with RF every 30s)
NFR = 3 (less chance of wasted FMs)
CP = ...waitwut (5, helps any weapon, be prepared to move a lot)

I disagree on the Azoth dealie. Dancer's best gear is all R/E so save your money and just try to get those rather than spend money on pointless gear. Get Azoth. The damage is much better than any other knife and it has a decent accuracy. I'd definitely get it. To further illustrate:

Ranged: Chakrams, T. Sting, Grenade, etc.
    Head: W. Turban, Denali
    Neck: Love Torque, PCC
    Earrings: Brutal, Suppa
    Body: AF2, JSE Harness
    Hands: Dusk Gloves
    Rings: Sniper's/Rajas/T. Ring/U. Ring
    Back: Amemet+1
    Waist: Swift Belt
    Legs: AF2
Feet: Dusk... I feel like I'm forgetting something else here too.

So that's ... Hands and Feet are the only things you can't get RSE for. Any DNC who also has a melee job leveled probably already has most of the salable items anyways...that's why I say Azoth is worth it.

Then again, I got Carbuncle's first Azoth so... I didn't pay for it and I am a little biased obviously.
