Back to say you most definitely can kite as dnc using chocob jig. (and desperate flourish if you really don't want to dat edit >_>
I simply swapped jig with flee, and it was piece of cake.
I use combo of -dmg set and eva set, pop flourish on mob, and run. The mob generally gets one hit on me before I'm out of range. then I wait til I'm about 25 units away, pop jig, and resume running, keeping the mob just in view.
This is even easier for monsters that casts magic. you can simply hover just in range, and take 3 steps back as soon as they start casting.
for mobs that have ranged attack, like thfs and rangers, DON'T use jig right off the bat, pop flourish to get out of range, then cast utsu ni once far enough away.
Every time they range attack you, take couple steps back, wait for them to range again. Once your shadows are burnt pop jig to get far enough out of range to recast shadows, then repeat. By the time the mob burns through ni and ichi jig will be ready to be recasted.
NOTE: this doesn't really work well for hate tanking for mages and etc. More for things where your vs mutliple mobs and need to take 2-3 out of action while group deals with rest.
All I got to say, if you want I can post some videos of me kiting 2-3 mobs at once, it's actually remarkably easy once you get the hang of it...
