I wonder if SE will reduce Ridill drop rate again now that they're nerfing 2 hand
I read books and play offline rpgs for the stories. I play MMOs for the sense of accomplishment especially with friends. As to the OP, yes I do think it is a bit meh. Only time will tell though.Originally Posted by Draylo

I can understand the missions, new stuff to do, and all that being the biggest thing. Sure, 'course it is.
But without gear, what'd be the point of Campaign stuff? Missions, okay, they're probably not nearly done anyway. It'll be fun to just have all-new places to explore again. That being said, historically, story will be doled out in small chunks over the next 12-18 months. There just plain needs to be something else in there too.
I'm just not seeing anything that begs to be found though. Of course, it could be that drops/rewards aren't new items. Maybe we'll see a Ridill up there for 100k Sigil points or whatnot.
There's nothing new for the majority of jobs to liven things up. I'm looking forward to playing with Snarl and stuff, but more than likely I'll just put BST back on the shelf and go back to Refresh/Haste or March/Minuet/Ballad. Woo.
Possibly it's a release-time issue, and all the promises of lots of new gear, new spells for all, job adjustments, etc will actually be fulfilled. For now it really seems like no rush to get the disc.
Aren't we still hanging for talk like that?Originally Posted by Gwynplaine
Yes, sadly they were. With all the RMT crackdowns and non stop updates full of win that fixed bullshit problems with the game. I did expect that the expansion would indeed maintain the same "full of win" streak they've been on. I actually believed that they must have got new management or something for them to have fixed as many of the games problems as they have. That perhaps the new management actually could see and understand the problems with the game, what people need/want.Originally Posted by Correction
Sorry to gripe, like I said I have no doubt they will add more to make this a good ex pack. What I'm
"whining" about today is the bottom line. I'm an LS leader. Yes I think about rewards. Its the nature of the job so to speak. Evaluating new content in terms of the LS is an important part of this role. It seems like its the new bandwagon to jump on LS's/people etc that look at things in terms of the rewards. However everyone seems to forget the importance of these rewards.
Fun? Missions? Sorry every single ToAU update I had the new missions done in a day or two then what? Wait a couple months in between updates so I can have another day or two of fun? Don't knock the importance of rewards in relation to content. If there are no rewards it means the content will get done once for the purpose of "fun" and then downgraded to the land of hydra.
I don't hate the game. I don't want to quit. I'm not trying to be an ass but I am expressing my disappointment. I did want progression and yes I really thought that SE would continue its pattern of great updates with a great expansion.
WotG trailer showed new WS. it looks like there's no trace of them and lies are not nice.
Introducing 2 new jobs without even adding freaking AF+1 for the past 3 is not nice.
Speaking about job adjustments and releasing 1 spell and 3 JAs is not nice. i dreamed about the crusaders of Altana going in the past with all new tricks and skills.
Making a special announcements on SMN and relasing no ToAU avatar is not nice.
this said, I agree that items can be secondary but still this expasions seems rushed to say the least.
i look forward to campaign but still i cant help but feeling dissapointed.
In another thread someone basically outlined the process of FFXI expansions:
big hype, everyone gets excited --> information comes out --> extreme let down and disappointment --> back to dragon's aery
Unfortunately, this pattern has pretty much held true for this expansion so far. The thing is, the good stuff in an expansion tends to come towards the middle/end, so I still have high hopes for that.
One thing that really frustrates me is the standard "just quit if you don't like it" response that most people give when somenone complains about the way the game is progressing. The way I see it, if you're paying for a game, then you have every right to complain about it. Furthermore, the complaints over the years have led to some very positive improvements for the game. Most of the people that complain about this game still really enjoy playing the game but they're just extremely frustrated by some of the things that SE does. This doesn't mean they should quit but rather, try to make their complaints heard so that the game can go in the right direction.
Personally, I really like FFXI and remember a lot of good times that I've had in the game as well as the good times playing previous FF games. I see so much potential for this expansion and I hope that it realizes its potential. By setting the expansion in the past, SE has given themselves the opportunity to create a whole new parallel world with minimal work because the basic zones are already made. This should provide the developers with an immense amount of time to put in new HNM's that are difficult and need gear upgrades to defeat. The new gear needed to fight the mobs in the past should only be active in the past so that the it doesn't upset the balance in the rest of the game. This is what I envisioned when I first saw the idea for the expansion and if SE doesn't take this opportunity to finally progress the game/gear then I'm goin g to be very, very disappointed.
Also, I sincerely hope they don't drop the ball on the missions again like they did in ToA. I don't care what people have to say about CoP missions, ToA missions were an absolute insult to the playerbase. The storyline was a joke compared to what people expect from SE in terms of storyline. Also, ToA missions were so easy and lacking in challenge that you barely felt a feeling of accomplishment upon completion.
SE has an opportunity to really redeem themselves here and I hope they don't drop the ball again.
where's mah walhara gages: 6%haste 6acc 9str 9dex +6% critical hit rate
I'm ready for the next HNM that drops a weapon better than Ridill. The last few updates you have to admit Ridills have been droping far more often.
That cannot describe RoZ, and doesn't describe TAU*, so I guess we know what you're really talking about when you say "FFXI expansions".Originally Posted by Pacha

Still, I dislike both the SE way (not giving anything in a vertical way since RotZ, except maybe Salvage gear, but only in part) and the Blizzard way (making shit of 90% you worked so hard to get until the day before the exp is released).
Something in between would be the best way probably =/
Don't think we'll ever gonna see something comparable to Sky/Sea end-game. Didn't happen in ToAU, don't see it happening with WotG. All the staff is so busy with the new MMORPG... they Rushed ToAU, they rushed WotG even more appearently, and really.. they just want to gain time while they are forwarding for the Nth time the release of information about the new MMORPG.
Seeing as how FFXI's LS management functionality is still the same clunky old crap you got at retail release I'm willing to bet SE doesn't give a crap about your average sack holder, let alone shell holder's ability to lead an LS. With this in mind I have zero faith in their ability to satisfy an LS whose goals are 'get some great new gear for my members without getting fucked over by every other LS on the server.'Originally Posted by Elipse
