Laptop finished updating - Works fine
PC 1
00ber Lag
HT 3.4GHZ - Pentium 4
2GigoRam
7200RPM Main Drive
128MB Radeon 9800 Pro
PC 2 (Dell Special <.<! ffs! -.- 800bux)
Runs smooth as silk
T2300 (1.66GHZ) AMD
1GigoRam
7200 RPM Main Drive
nVidia GeForce Go 7400
Both WindowsXP
I'm running AMD and seeing plenty of problems. So probably not as simple as that.Originally Posted by Legend
could you, just to humor me, please try to shut off the official windowed mode, and run windower and confirm/deny that the general system lag is gone, while FFXI is still as bad? And do you remember what your CPU usage used to be?Originally Posted by Isiolia
(the reason I'm wondering about other peoples CPU % usage with "working" and "Not working" clients is that I know that my CPU% used to be a LOT higher than the 12% it seems to be capped at now, but I've done so much bad stuff to my computer that it's not really representative of anything, need more observations. )
And please everyone include CPU% usage with active/inactive window.
on my system, the windowed mode from SE makes my entire system lag like mad, but windower let's the rest run fine.
I have a nagging suspicion that SE did something completely messed up (beyond the obvious that something is messed up I mean)
Intel/Nvidia, runs like shit, even updated my Nvidia drivers.
edit: rest of my system is fine when the game is on, just the game runs at like 10 fps... even while in MH.
has anyone talked to people at SE about this yet and got any kind of answer for the lag problem?
my pol.exe keeps setting its priority to low on its own as well like some of you have mentioned but i dont know too much bout computers so i dont know wtf that means
dont have any kinda of dat mods or things of that nature
game lags in windower, full screen, and se window mode
game was running smooth this morning before maint

My laptop is my 'bitch' machine <.< It has all kinda stupid shit runing and FFXI runs perfectly ~
Seems something related to Microsoft crap than SE... I do use Windows XP SP2 but I disabled MOST of services that windows loads by default including:
Windows Firewall - disabled
PC Security center (or wathever crap it is in English) - disabled
.NET Runtime optimization - disabled
Clipbook - disabled
UPS crap - disabled
Helper NetBIOS - disabled
Indexing service - disabled
Messenger - disabled
You can find these services by Start > Run... > services.msc
Also most of the graphical effects are disabled.
My money is on Security Center or Firewall... hope that can help
Very much appreciated, the cpu% was what I was expecting, the priority thing wasn't.Originally Posted by ClassicRed

No SC or Firewall.
Using the Windower the general system lag doesn't seem to be present. The in-game lag seems to be less but still noticeable.Originally Posted by Hellfury
I seemed to be idling at aroud the same 8-15% CPU, went into Besieged and it went to 20% or so. Active or inactive doesn't seem to make a difference. It goes to low when inactive, back to Normal when active, but I'm seeing the the same 17 to (sometimes) 23% usage typing this as I did with the window focused.
I can't say what my prior CPU usage was...can't recall ever bothering to check. I was running two instances of the game with no issues at all when I first built the thing.
As requested.

I tried it out, didn't help alas :/Originally Posted by arshesney
come to think of it, i did notice services.exe was holding a constant 15-ish % of my CPU, meaning it was doing something. I honestly have no clue what it's doing though![]()
Fixed for me by removing my Logitech Mouse/Keyboard. Couple of other people have said the same.
quick Q, was DX9 introduced into this update?
Even if you disbaled windows firewall from network neighborhood propreties it will STILL be loaded and eating about 15% of your system resources (silently), security center (I'm not sure how it's called in English) is that annoying service that puts a warn sign in your taskbar when, for expample, you don't have an antivirus installed or when auto update isn't enabled. Those are not programs you run, or you can find an icon for, they are part of the OS, but can be disabled whitout any consequence.Originally Posted by Khrno

Believe so, since they had said that the reason windowed mode was taking so long was that they needed to rewrite the engine into DX9. I assume that since we have windowed mode, it's in DX9 now.Originally Posted by Lordwafik
